Johnny1290, I agree 100% with this statement. Young people have been getting positive reinforcement their whole lives and expect the world when they finally arrive in it. Guess what boy and girls... it doesn't work that way.

Well thanks, I was conserned that I would be buying bulbs often because it would shake the filiment apart. But I thought I would risk it.

The cool thing is that I pulled the headlights out of the box and couldnt figure out a way to make headlight mounts. It kinda bothered me so I set the one on the drag link bracket. (It was drilled with speed holes) It looked nice there so I bought another drag link mount and bolted them down! They steer fine and stay pointed where they are put. I have a little wobble at 28-30mph from the unbalanced bias plys(there being replaced when the $$ comes in) so the lights look kinda funny shaking back and forth(very small wobble).
But all in all, they are a really cool addition to the car.

Same here. I have been a member here for quite a while and learned quite a bit of stuff. I keep my posting to a minimum because I still don't know what exactly it is that this site is looking for in their members. Just when I think I know what the HAMB members consider a worth car there is another thread that knocks down one of the things I though was part of that. So I will be damned if I post anything and get flamed for needing a little education.

That all said, I know better than to come to a new site and start posting random questions without researching what kind of answers I am going to get. That is why I have stuck around here so long. I learn more from reading others questions and answers than anything else. This site has been a great source of information for me...even while working on my late model truck. So I wouldn't trade my membership here for anything and I look forward to much more knowledge coming my way.

I've read rod magazines 24/7 since I was ten years old. I knew just enough to be dangerous. The day I got my first car in 1965 (a pos 53 Ford) I drove over to the race shop of a couple of infamous brothers see about some speed parts. It didn't go well. Those guys didn't hold back their delight in punking the dorky kid. They shocked the shit out me with a clever magnito-charged metal countertop! Then "accidentally" let their shop dog charge over that counter. I didn't stay long.

These guys pissed a lot of people off, but they knew what they were doing and proved it buy building winning cars in dragracing, Baha racing and motorcycle racing. They just didn't suffer fools well.

But I was just too stupid or too determined to stay away. I would go over there many days after school and hang around asking endless questions. They would give me crap and tell me to go away. Then after a few months they would make me clean shit up (sometimes literally the dog's shit) or take rusted stuff apart. I didn't care what they called me then because now I was BEHIND that counter. One day I asked "...when are you gonna give me some slack?" Their answer - "When you feel some slack you'll know we've dropped the rope."

The HAMB ain't that hard - read the rules, respect the rules, earn your place.

I see a lot of the younger guys building the traditional cars, and from what I've seen there is still a large amount of young people in the hobby myself included (I'm 29). I do think it's funny thou that the young guys build traditional cars and the old dudes build Modern hot rods.

I am technically a FNG here... I have been keeping my flap shut and learning as well as talking to people over pms. Now that I have a basic handle on what is okay and what is liable to get me banned, I can say that I have not gotten slammed for anything that I have said.

I am 21, and I respect everyone on this board... people think i am nuts when I start talking about what I have learned on this board. Thank you everyone.

I guess it boils down to "When in Rome, Do as the Romans do."

This is my first post on the HAMB after lurking for about a month, so I guess I'm a total FNG (and I have a shitty 60s pony car to boot!). Plus, I'm only 21, so I guess that makes me part of the "lost younger generation". I don't know how lost I am though, I'd take a 400hp SBF or a blown Ardun flatty any day (sexiest looking engine ever!)

In my opinion, some of all generations were 'lost' to the sport, there were always folks, rich or poor, who didn't give a shit how their car worked, just so long as it worked. These are also the folks that tend to neglect the hell out of their rides, and they don't 'get' cars, to them, a car is an implement, like a shovel is to a farmer. Why the hell should it be cool? It's just a useful thing.

Then there are the retards who are "car guys". How the hell does a plastic tape-on hoodscoop, an ugly ass set of neons, and a $300 chrome muffler that sounds like a dying sportbike make you a car guy? Call me back when you've done a 2.4L swap into your honda shitbox and know 1) what TORQUE is and 2) which end of the wrench is which. That portion of my generation is probably lost...but not as badly as the guy in my calc I class who quite litterally said "American cars are fucking pieces of shit, give me a honda anyday". This is also the same guy who could barely get his POS to squeal the tires IN THE RAIN and bragged about it. This tard also dropped a sparkplug down the SPARKPLUG HOLE of his ford. It's not american car manufacturers' faults that you're too stupid to buy the right shit.

Of course, you guys probably had those types back in the day, but it seems to me that "can-do" and some mechanical inclination was much more common back when, so even most of those guys eventually did their own work. Today, mechanic work might as well be voodoo, some of these idiots have been putting stickers on their hondas for YEARS and never gone any deeper "cuz its complicated an shit".

So yeah, I think some of us youngins' is lost, but when weren't some people lost to the automotive hobby?

I might be a little biased though, because I've been working on cars since I was eight. Hell, that's when I started looking for a project, and I've had my musting since I was 14, so I suppose I'm not hopeless. Wouldn't mind having a 32 roadster though. :D

from my view some of us who look down their nose at the younger ones who have respect for the part of the hobby WE enjoy are becoming the GOLD CHAINERS of the tradional crowd. ya know if you see akid with a 60 bel air 4dr dont shun him ,it may send him to the dark side so to speak.just because he has THOSE wheel or THAT body style should make them any less of a hot rodder than the rest of us. hell as history has taught us hot rodding wanst about conforminf to a set guideline anyway.......just my 2 cents.....

"Put up with our crap or get out",,,,,,,,,yup, that is the message here. All I see is a bunch of guys playing at being tough behind a keyboard. Thinking like that will kill this hobby.

My observations as a new guy: There are some very gifted and talented builders willing to share the benefits of their experience and pass along their craft. There are, however, as many arrogant profane cyber bullies longing to make a name for themselves by abasing anyone who does not fit their mold of "the lifestyle". I'm not trying to insult anyone, but what is the point in some ritualistic grade school hazing to make a "FNG pay his dues". If you truly want nostalgia hot rodding to endure, try passing along the strength of your knowledge instead of the weakness of your moral character. Not all people were born with grease under their nails. A question or comment may seem ignorant to you, but if your son or daughter asked it would you reply with a string of profanities and send them away to crawl under a rock? I'm not looking for a group hug, but remember the way you answer a question teaches as much as the answer itself. When you are old and think the youth are indignant smart-alecs who don't respect you, remember who taught them.

Is that what they call flaming a FNG...???

    Oh, the irony....

Damn, I just pissed myself... Then again, I'm getting to be one of the old farts. I better just get used to it.

PRICKS PRICKS PRICKS one word thatdesribes the flamers, bitchers and anti FNG attitude on here. Watch the thread count on a member and listen to the wind whistling thru their ears.I'm old[59] and have one boy 16 and another 35. Both lurk here but refuse to post. Why? they aren't thinskinned but don't want to sink to the level of the high count know it alls. Cars are supposed to be FUN;however you build them. The Hamb is frequently discussed by a lot of my car friends but they lurk rather than be identified with it. everyone wants their car to be well built and safe,so questions arise that need answers. It is damning it itself that there are no links to other sites, but that is the elitism at the top that proclaims my way or the highway. Grow up respect others and maybe someday you will have fame for your knowledge, not your flaming. Have a nice day.

I'm "watching" 2 newbie posts with some real basic questions I have not seen them get slammed yet. Everyone is giving advice. Both the FNG's post are not opinionated or trying to build the coolest whatever, just asking questions.

I think this is the perfect example of excessive responses. And honestly "that's the way they're supposed to fit"? That's a great way of showing how informed and knowledgeable you are. Any time some one posts something you disagree with or don't like we can all just say "you're a fucking newbie retard! Didn't you KNOW that's the way it IS!" That way you don't have to take a chance at getting caught in a mistake and the "fucking newbie retard" never learns why exactly that's the way it's supposed to be. Another thing you may want to think about (or not) is that the doors DO look like they're mis-hung and it's possible that "newbie" has his own rod that he's built with tight fitting doors because it looks better (no offence to builder of silver car).
