I've got my sport coupe on ebay and have a bidder from Spain. He's got 2 positive feedbacks. The part I find strange is he never asked any questions about the car. You guys think it's a scam or for real? I know Sweden and Norway have a good car scene but never heard of anything in Spain. Clark PS..his two feedabcks are for models and the one was a 40 Ford woodie.
As long as his money clears your bank, I guess it doesn't matter where the car goes to. Once it clears, send it off to him. If it doesn't clear, then you know it was a scam.
europe is hot for hotrodding we sell parts al over europe, just use regular precautions and you will be ok he may have a friend in the usa that will bring u cash. be ready to have a seperate bank account to recieve a wire tranfer. tip: dont play stupid american games good european customers will drop you fast if you act like it. it is a world economy "so act your wage"
I have nothing against the car going over seas. Just found it odd that I didn't get any questions from him. I've answered a bunch of questions with atleast two guys sounding serious. Good idea for a seperate acount for a tranfer. Clark
Hiya clark, just to let you know there is rockabilly events that are held in spain, so it could be a genuin buyer m8 and its true hot rodding IS big in europe m8......hope this helps m8........but its upto you at the end of the day m8.........TOAD ......ps...i`m in the UK
Toady...I'm gonna let it ride. I was just curious cause I've never heard of anybody in Spain. I will give the guys in the UK credit for building and having some cool stuff. Clark
There is or was at least one HAMBer in Barcelona...cannot remember name. He was trying to piece together a flathead powered '32. I think it's worth a probe: Something like "how much do you know about the car, and what more do you need to know?" And..."What documentation will you need to title it in Spain?" At least the last should get a response if legit. Perhaps he knows the car well enough from HMB coverage...but if he's not a bit nervous about documentation for titling and shipping, he's not real.
And...though his feedbacks are trivial, they are for toys so quirky they suggest actual rodder interest, not at all like a generic Nigerian scammer sort of "I'll buy your item".
I know the Templars car club are from Spain, Barcelona I believe. Europe has alot of Hot Rodders, more in the north, like Germany, UK, Scandinavia, fewer in the south, like Spain, Italy or Portugal.
sold my 56 plymouth to a guy and was sure it was a spam. He sounded foreign but lived in USA. He did not care for any details and never asked any questions. He only saw a few pictures and never asked for more. I sweated out the days it took to recieve his payment and after cashing his PO money orders I called his shipper. The shipper came and I was more worried. The shipper spoke very little english, drove a new chevy truck with liscense applied for on the back and a rented two car trailer. He asked me to explain how the new gps he just bought worked and told me he was taking the car to New York. I told him the guy lived in Ohio but he insisted the car went to NY. After he left I called the buyer and told him his car was going to NY and he said no problem as he was shipping it to Astonia!!
The quality of your work is known around the world. Now, I really feel that this will turn out to be a spoof bid. Be sure you make E-bay aware as soon as it closes, that you have concerns about the sale. This way you will have a trail for when they want to hit you with all the sales fees. When I bid and bought the Fiat Furgone from Herve in France, I never asked any questions, so it might not be that unusual...of course it was only a $700 truck.
On something like this you really got to use your best judgement. If the guy starts asking that you use a holding company until he gets his car then I would say no don't do it. If you receive a check from a foreign bank then wait for the check to clear before you work out the shipping do not send it right after you have deposited it. Because he could always pull funds early and screw you... I have seen this done many of times. Just search the web for ebay scams.... you find your answer soon enough.
You never know, maybe you have just the car he has been looking for. If the wire transfer clears you are golden. Now is a great time to ship cars out of your neck of the woods with Carlisle and Hershey coming up. There will be literally hundreds of containers being loaded. If you need some help shipping it (I have a great export agent at the port) or just have questions about an international sale/wire transfer shoot me a PM. Good luck!
Thanks ...I feel a little more confident this guy is for real. I'll still be on my toes for a scam. Rich...flattery will get you no where.....OK I owe you a beer for that one!! Bruce ...it's a little late in the game to be asking him questions. It goes off tonight. I thought the same about the toys. Clark Clark
His past purchases were for die cast cars... maybe he didn't notice a few of the zeroes in the price Rich
I've got a friend that is partners in a shipping company. He can help. Although he mainly does Norway and Sweden. Clark
I've sold a Model A Speedster to a guy in Spain last year - no problems at all, except after he won the bid he wanted me to put fenders on the car so it would pass the technical inspection they have over there. I told him to fabricate something from old motorcycle fenders and he was fine with that. Good luck!
The guy who got my '34 off of eBay was from Denmark, no real communication. He paid promptly and had it picked up not long afterwards. Best auction I've had to date. I think they have a pretty good handle on what they're buying these days and with the exchange rate they're doing pretty good these days. Good luck with it, I hope yours goes as smoothly as mine did.
yeah, theres the Templars in barcelona, jesse is on here sometimes. I think his name is buicking? they have a myspace too. might be worth asking around about the dude, Maybe they would know him. There is a small hotrod/custom scene there though..
Dead simple - if this guy comes up with the winning bid, the car does not leave your hands until you have cleared and authenticated funds in a new bank account you set up especially to receive his funds. Put a reasonable timescale on the money transfer deadline and as someone else said, voice your concerns to eBay, immediately post auction. Any questions?
There's a few great threads on here about how to sell abroad and how to deal with buyers and the fund$... I'll see if I can find them in the search engine for ya' [edit] try this one... whats the smart way to collect payment on a vehicle being sold?? http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/...smart+way+to+collect+payment+on+vehicle+being I've been watching your car not sell for a while here and on the bay... I can't believe it hasn't sold yet. Best of luck Clark... from a fellow S/C owner
When I was there, I didn't see anything hot rods. We went to a rockabilly festival too. Nothing. So I asked around and was told there were a few around but it was still a fairly new thing for them, Post-Franco.
I've sold some 50's parts to guys in Spain before. Not the biggest hot spot in Europe to sell to, but there must be a few guys into it.
When I first got the E-mail from Portugal about my deuce roadster I was skeptical, but I went ahead and worked with the guy. It took some time but eventually the money was wired and the roadster shipped. Happy ending is I just got a photo from a guy in Europe of the car and the owner.
there are indeed hot rodders in spain! two clubs brought cars when we played the High Fest in Barcelona last September. The car clubs i saw are the Royals (from bareclona) (myspace.com/royalscc) and the Templars. Here's a few snapshots. Can't remember who's cars are whos...PM me if you need some help, i've got a few friends from over there. maybe they know your bidder?
Damn i want that 58 Chevy...lolol...On the real tho anything linked with e-bay you have to be on your toes and question. Having him send some kind of bank check (with the proper amount of course!!) is the way i would prefer cause you have more control. But setting up a totally seperate account is not a bad idea however doesnt the bank have to notify the IRS when things or tranfers are over 9grand???
I guess it's going to Spain. I'll let you guys know how it all works out. Charlie....I'll see you next week! Clark
