Were movin along on a dragster build. Chasis is almost ready to come home. I'm starting to get the motor put together also. Should be a fun ride, its about a 104" wheelbase. Were gonna try and make it look alittle like the Mooneyes Dragmaster. I'm building a 311" Chevy for it. Should go pretty good.
What was your thinking on using the box tubing for the lower rail? Pretty unusual for a Mooneyes-Dragmaster style chassis. The rear tube design is very close to a Woody Gilmore frame.
The square tube is what we started with originally, then the plan changed alittle, so this is what we ended up with. Were not trying to build a replica, just used the Mooneyes car as an idea. It will definitly be alittle bit different than most rail cars at the races, thats what makes it fun. Were even running a shorty C-4 Ford tranny behind a Chevy, with a narrowed 8" Ford rear. Just because thats what we had layin around.
Starting to really take shape! Did you have another chassis to get dimensions from,or set of plans?I've got a buddy interested in building a similiar frame and he's looking for plans/ideas.
We didn't have any plans, I just wanted it short, and to sit as low as possible in the back. The chasis builder just used an NHRA rulebook to go by aside from our wants.
love it! do you have a pic of how you joined the square tube to the round tube? one of my favorite cackle cars (poison ivy) has a rec. tube lower rail. its got one big mandrel bend around the front...bang...instant front cross member...
Looks dammmm good Larry.....are they still having the Snap-On adventure sat.? If so can I check out the dragster? Skip
I heard the Snap-On deal is still on, I don't think I will make it tho. You guys did right on the Willy's for sure~
Real nice build. Gonna be a lot of fun. You have captured the essence of the old time rails. Best wishes. Don
And if I know Larry he is having this rig built strong.....he hammers these cars fucking hard. Definate "TIRE SMOKER"
Thanx Mark.......After the last roadster with some nitro, and an interesting top end experience, I figured it was time for a roll-cage! But yes......I'm DEFINITLY gonna try and bust the pedal thru the floor as usual! Were gonna run the 7.5 cheaters, so they should smoke along ways!
Larry I drove the HAMB Dragster that Rocky built at the CHRR...wasn't real fast but when you are in a rollcage with all the safety gear it gives you some piece of mind to hit it hard.
Car is all welded up. body is done, headers are done. Battery and tank mounted. Need to order axles, torque converter, finish the motor, and wire/plumb. Then we can see how she goes! This makes for big ass smiles on my face!!
Looks great Larry! I can see the famous " Boulavard Tire" in the backround! Is Joe doing the motor? Kenny.
Yeah Uncle Joe is guiding me on the motor. Were ending up with a 12.5:1, 311" Small Chevy. Were gonna run it carbureted at first, then run the injectors.
Hey CREEPER so when is the first scheduled pass happening? Taylor and I can be the cheering/pit crew. Rotten Russ.
