I need intake gaskets. Nobody I've found list gaskets for a 56. They have to be the same as......?

I found a Cal Custom set that I bought but they are way too thick. My car has a 4 barrel intake which shouldn't matter but from what I understand the intakes are basically all the same up to 65?

The later sets are one piece where the earlier ones are 2 (3 piece) with the metal center sections. I found Fel-Pro list them for a 58 but not a 56. I would think they would know that they would interchange but............

They would have to be the correct thickness as they use the very thin center metal sections.

Yes? No? I just don't want to order to get the wrong thing.

Call CPR , California Pontiac Restorations in Santa Ana, California. they will have your 55-60 gaskets.

Axle is right, CPR Has all kinds of *****en **** for early Pontiac's.

The '58 gaskets you speak of should work, I have bought those for my '60 before.. The ports my a bit larger but i would think it won't matter.

Then again, I havent tried.. But i would if i had an early Pontiac.

Well, I'm new to Pontiac's and did allot of research. the bolt patter is the same thru '64 (I believe 64 was a transition year, as some had the changes updated, which you would see on the '65 models). But the forward water p***ages are different. 61-64 have two round holes. My '60 (I would say the same for '59 too) had an L shape p***age. Also may be different, is the exhaust crossover for the choke. I slapped a 61-64 Weiand intake on my '60 389, made the changes to match the water p***age (Plugged the forward p***age, re-shaped the other, which was done by Williams Machine shop here in Ventura, I just smoothed it out) and the bosses for the Coil and kick down brackets. Best bet is take your intake in and match to the 58, the bolt and exhaust ports should match, not sure about the water p***age and crossover. Good Luck. there's a thread somewhere that has good info on Pontiac's, I'll see if I can track it down.

As I remember I couldnt get Valve Cover gaskets from Napa. Brake Shoes either, but Auto Zone had those & the rebuild kits for the wheel cylinders. Thats why I ended up Putting the 70 Pontiac 350 in mine. I may have a set of NOS Intake gaskets, remember getting a set with the Car. Ill Dig & let you know.

Thanks so far. I'll look up CPR. 53Chevy I'd love to take the intake over and match up the gaskets but nobody has any of them around here.

Yeah, it's not light (hahaha!). CPR is good and you have AMES too. NAPA has been pretty good on the parts. I've been tracking down NOS for my engine for use and back-up stash. I think Offenhauser sells gaskets too, look into them to, maybe.

Replacement intake gaskets for early Pontiac V8s use one part number for '55-'60. If you can't find any, I'm sure I've got some old Mr. Gasket sets.

THANKS!! $23 for 56 Gaskets at CPR. 58 Gaskets at Fel-Pro are $13 dollars.

    That's a 12 packs worth of difference!!

I'm sure Kanter has them too.

  13. 55-60 is one intake pattern, 61-64 differs slightly. 59-60 4bbl intakes take an AFB, a '56 4bbl intake only takes a 4GC from the looks of it. It's been too long since I took the intake off the car.

Thanks. I'll check PAR out for parts. Seems Fel-Pro don't actually have them in stock. I havent got around to ordering them as I have alot of other work to do also.

I'm not at home but when I get there I'll check out your email but I'm kind of partial to the 56 engine.
