At this weeks Top Oil Challange the Poteet and Main "Speed Demon" streamliner with a 2.2L MoPar midget motor, turbocharged ran 390 mph dpwn. Sprung an exhaust leak on return and caught hoses and wireing on fire. Coasted through with a unoficial 343 record. http://www.landracing.com/forum/index.php/topic,4720.0.html for full detalis from the salt
I can't believe it. A few weeks ago this forum was full of big time Bonneville fans. Now only 8 guys bothered to read about a 2.2 liter four cylinder car that almost went 400mph? What happened to all those Guys that were so into the salt?
Work got into the way of reading. I'll get to the salt again one day. Could it be that a small engine with a whole bunch of turbo is easier to get moving good down low without using up the tires? Congrats to the Poteet team!
Naw Rich, you just posted it as most of the country was either still at work, going home or having supper with the family! Dont worry, it will get seen. Crazy!!!!!!!!!!!
I had the pleasure to meet George Poteet at B'ville this year and chat (albeit breifly) 'bout this car. Impressive and Congrats to Mr Poteet and his crew!!!!
I believe it is the same engine that was in the blow fish 2006,2007 set a record in the Blowfish also.
I've been following the 'private meet' post over on landracing .com. I hope Mr Poteet and Ron get over 400 with that teeny motor,390 is still incredible.
The efforts of these two guys are nothing short of amazing. Incredibly impressive race cars and results. These guys are definitely pushing the envelope.
I saw that on the LR site and called my pops and told him the "half a hemi, banger" went 390mph..........Wow! was his reply.....gotta' love the "live" updates from S S Slim on the LR site....... Chris Nelson Kansas
and all this time I thought all George Poteet did was buy '32 Ford garnish moldings on ebay; driving up prices. Just kidding, that is very impressive, all about weight to horsepower just like always, damn physics.
He has his limits......I got giddy when he was bidding on a Duece or 33 part I was selling (Iforget) and he stepped away when the bidding got silly.
Ron Main may not be everyones best buddy, but 300mph with a flathead and 390 with a pushrod two valve 140 inch four banger is really something.
I don't care how much money you've got THAT is an impressive number, and with a 4 cyl. to boot, insane. I'm just glad George is spending his money on hot rod stuff and letting the rest of us go along for the ride. Frank
George Poteet is spending lots of money on cool hot rod stuff just like I would do if I had lots of money. He is sure keeping lots of shops busy....and they are all shops that build cool stuff. 390 MPH is fast with any kind of motor!
