I am hoping somebody has a good idea on how to remove pin stripping with out damaging the paint.I also need to remove a decal from the trunk.I do not want any left overs from the guy I bought the car from.He painted a name for the car on the trunk like it was some kinda a freakin jet boat. The rest of the stripping looks good and the paint is nice. Thanks for any help you can come up with
Easy Off oven cleaner, the stuff in the Yellow can. Might take more than one application. Test in an incon****uous spot first.
An old timer bought a stock car I had lettered up with One Shot .Was surprised I didn't know about using Easy Off Oven Cleaner to remove the numbers.I'd try it on an incon****uous spot first though.Good luck.
I'm a pinstriper and I've used Easy Off. It works great. Get the original stuff, not the low odor kind. Not that it's fail safe, but I haven't damaged a good paint job yet. Spray it on, leave it about 5-10 minutes and start wiping it off with a soft cloth or Viva paper towels. Sometimes it'll leave a few flakes of the striping on there and you'll have to do it again. Just clean it up with windex. You may need to buff a little if it slightly dulls the finish, but I haven't had to yet. I did the fender and tank of my Kawasaki Vulcan that way and didn't lose one bit of gloss. Works like a champ.
As for the decal on the trunk, apply a little heat to it with a hair dryer or heat gun. If there's adhesive leftover try a little lighter fluid.
The prior owner of my coupe striped the indented lines on both the front and rear bumper. (see pict) Do you guys have any experience using Easy Off on chrome? Will it damage it? I would like the striping gone.
Provided the paint is at least six month old, and was 2K (ie: catylized), easy off, or enamel reducer on a lithowipe will work. For decals, tape stripes, etc, the best results are by using a kettle of hot water poured onto the panel. pour some water, get an edge lifted with your fingernail, more water, peel, repeat......I typically have the decals, signs come up with 95% of the adhesive still on them, leaving very little cleanup. And for removing the remaiing adhesive, final wash solvent is strong enough to soften the adhesive without being harmfull to the paint. (and again, the age & 2K rules apply with the wash solvent) HTH James
Damn, I thought this was a thread about getting rid of strippers.......those hussies are always prying money from my hands! Although, I reckon if I sprayed them with Easy Off that'd work too!
I am going to try this out on Friday. Thanks to all for the tips.I will post a before and after pic so people can see visual proof.
I went to all the local markets and could not find any original Easy off.I am going to go into the low rent district and see if I can find a can.
