The engine trans combo when i bought the truck was a 390 c6... the 390 was trashed... the c6 was fine. so I found a case for a small block and had all the guts from it transferred and rebuilt into that case... the new engine is a 5.0. with a edelbrock performer carb. with appropriate kickdown adapters.... when I put the linkage on it is binding and bumping the firewall... are the kickdowns the same on these? second I dont remember how the lever end attached to the trans.... If I remember correctly there is about an inch or so of shaft sticking out of the same bolt the shift lever is on that it slides over and a nut holds it on. Is that right? One guy told me there was another bolt that it attached to. you can see here the old 390 throttle bracket... which I would like to use... but not sure how I can make it work properly. other than just a throttle cable hold down. more than likely I am going to need a new hold down.. any recommendations?
My C6 doesn't have a kickdown arm. When I step on the gas it just downshifts. Maybe there are different types/years with different linkage. When I asked on here years ago, when I got my Merc, everybody told me to just downshift by hand!
I don't use a down shift rod on my c4 or c6. The vacuum modulator does it for you or do it by hand. Saves the issue of trying to have the rod fit & miss the firewall.Mine have worked just fine for the last 25 yrs that way.
All C6s came with one but they seam to work fine most of the time with out. My F250 with 390 shifts out too soon so I am going to install new adjustable modulator and just kick up the pressure a little by turning screw in. Lever should be adjusted so it is at full sweep when carb is at full throttle.
