  1. Just saw some CNN video on the computer a few minutes ago, Galveston looked like New Orleans 3 years ago, the video showed buildings sticking up outta the water.....and the storm hasn't actually hit yet! Yikes:eek:
Y'all be careful down there in Texas!

Stay safe and dry you folks down in Texas. For those directly in the path, be careful.

This storm is the real deal, the winds might not be that crazy, but the storm surge is MASSIVE, and will do major damage.

“Persons not heeding evacuation orders in single-family one- or two-story homes will face certain death,” the National Weather Service said in a local bulletin. “Many residences of average construction directly on the coast will be destroyed.”

Dr Jeff Masters blog on www.weatherunderground.com is a great resource for following storms.

I just saw the coast guard having to rescue people on their rooftops in Boliver already. I'm headed to my folks house on the Northwest Side, hopefully things should be relatively OK up there.

    Let's all be safe!

People in Austin are completely freaking out. Everyone here is ran-sacking the grocery stores thinking this is the end. Stores and state offices are closing at noon today despite clear skies....

As of this post, Bolivier is, for all intents and purposes, UNDER WATER. The 911 spokeswoman says that there are NO EMERGENCY personell to come to them.

The surge is already cresting the seawall in most spots of Galveston and leaving debris on the roadway.

  10. Sounds bad, just saw on CNN where over 220.00 have left Houston, hope there's no looting or any other bad stuff gonna happen.
    God bless Texas!

Jacy and I are hanging out here in our place also. I moved the van into a more secured(away from the wind and higher level)parking spot this a.m and we stocked up on beer and other must haves. I am in the office working on some new stuff for the burnout till the power goes out everyone else here in town be safe and see you when the some comes back out for a beer or something

  12. Hey Richard D hang in there bro and have a beer for me too. My family and I just got in from Port Aransas, and North Padre Island. The storm surge was about 5 feet from the bottom of the piers. At times when it would smooth out it was 10- 15 from the bottom of the piers. We took one last look about 5 pm when we left, and it was already to the bottom of the piers. We are a good 150 miles south of Houston and Galveston. I will try to post some video or some pictures soon. There were a hell of a lot of surfers who were jumping off the pier to go surfing. I have some of that on video as well.

I live about 4 blocks off Ocean drive here in Corpus and if the storm surge were to get as high as galveston, I think my ass would be long gone hahaha.. Anyway guys stay safe, If anyone comes to the corpus area Holler at me. 361-249-6633. Looks like we will be ok, and lets grab a beer :)wmodglin at grandecom.net

  13. Hunkered down here on SW side. The coast should be the only place with a real problem. Richard, you sure you're ok?

Just lock-n-load your guns and coolers, charge up your cell phones, fresh batteries for the radio and a few candles....... and your set to ride-it-out.
I pray that it calms down before it hits land, we know all to well what it's like riding these bad-boys every year.
#1 thing is to keep your family safe !

Good luck to all that are riding it out; I'd be long gone!!! My wifes sister and her husband live in Houston; he's a doc so they are staying. They own land and a sailboat in Galviston that they have already written off. They lost a beachfront lot in Galviston several years ago in a hurricane. Went there to check on it after the storm and the lot was gone.

I left. I live in Clear Lake, way to close to Galveston Bay. I've been through too many big storms and hurricanes. Not worth the risk any more. And I agree - the worst danger is other people.

  19. I'm still alive. Lost my fence a a few branches off my big tree, but no other problems. No broken glass, nor am I missing a single shingle. Hey, that rhymes. Put away a LOT of Natty Light! We have power at the office so I'm back to work today. My condolences to thos who were less fortunate than I.

  20. All well on SW side. We were only out power for about 12 hours. No drinkable water still. I have two paid days off to work on the rod, I count myself double lucky.

My Brother and his crews are down there from Ft Worth hanging power lines back as fast as they can. He has been away from his wife for over a month fixing storm damaged power lines. Y'all keep an eye out for those guys.

  23. Still no pwer in Spring (North-West side of Houston), but generator running so were partially ok. Tree fell of my garage and made a mess of it, but the GizzleHopper was safely tucked away in a sturdy building out in Waller County. So, with the wife, my two boys (dogs) and the race car ok, were good.

Day 13. Still no power. Minor damage tothe house, truck ,and car. No damage to the roadster. :D

Sick of generators, cooking on the grill, take out pizza, luke warm coffee, and shaving my melon in the dark.

It could have been much much worse. I have neighbors that pine trees decorating their bedrooms, kitchens, and living rooms.
