I picked up a hotrod from another HAMB and I have been kinda sitting on my purchase. I know it is not a total HAMB friendly ride, but it has a lot of potential. I have always unload my new rides into a pile in the shop floor, so this is new having a driver. Thing is it seems to be hiding its history. I was hoping some of the area folks might have some history on this car. It is a 34 Plymouth with a Nash 5 speed and a 454 that is reported to possibly been punched to a 502. The car is also reported to have been all yellow at one point. The metal work on the car has been done very well as far as the chop and roof fill. Does anyone know who built this car? I have to finish a 34 chevy coupe before starting on this project, so I thought I would try and find out about its history. It has hints of early show car or drag car. The title goes back to Ok. from a guy named Payne. Any clues out there? And thanks big time Jim for the car.
Maybe you could tell us where you and the car are from? I used to know of a similar car, but I'm pretty sure it's not the same one.
Why? Because it's an all business hotrod? That's a cool ride man! Only thing I see is maybe the electric fan. But I'm also not as picky as some of the other HAMB'rs here...
The one I knew was a chopped and channelled 34 Ply with chrome yellow w/pearl paint, black Naugha interior with boot stitching, plexy roof insert, blown BBC, 32 Ford grille, and Vega taillights. Reason I don't think it was yours is because it had a rectangle tube frame, was channelled, and didn't have a filled roof.
I saw it at a functon at MarkX's shop when it was on Irving Blvd. I also remember something about fire and minibikes. Weird huh?
Cool car Doc. Looks fast just sitting there. Wish you were able to bring it to the drags. Maybe next time.
Funny Story..My Dad built that car (Mark Payne of Stillwater, Ok)..I have all the history you want for it because at the age of 21 I was broke and poor and love old cars so he wrote down about 100 possible locations of cars that came from old man stories. Most of them that were called old coupes ended up being 48 chevy 4-doors or 38-chevy slantback and so on..but this one came from the Kansas/Oklahoma line and was upside down in a wheat field behind a school house that was vacated in 1942 before the war. Anything else just ask but the car was never painted always in black primer and it is a 454 older chevy truck motor bored to a 468. Ran an 11.60 with the 5speed and sportsman pro radials!
The same guy that built that car brought back this 3w from the dead. When I bought it in Tennesse the inner door skins were gone as well as door posts. The outer skins were barely there and welded to the car. Not finished but only been on it about 2 months
Ilike those 32 to 34 mopars, dont havto chop em' much, and they have a sneaky look coming down the street. You can put darn near any motor in em as the frames are real sturdy.
Cool car! I like the cragar mags! This may be unpopular, but if I see one more red wheel with a wide white, I think I will puke!
