Well, it's pictured in my 1956 Nicson catalog, but I don't think they made them much beyond that. Actually, I'm surprised that they made them at all, since SBCs were available with 4bbls from the beginning. Just an example of a carryover of flathead technology.
i've been wanting a 2x2 for my 55 322 Nailhead but they are not awefully abundant due to the 4 barrel carbs comeing out about the same time that motor did. obsolete technology at that point. surprised to even see one for a SBC. would look good on the wall.
Anything Nicson made seems like a highly desired. I wish I had more info on anything that they put out not only that particular SBC intake. I have a 3 Pot Side draft Nicson intake for my 235 that I wish I could find the exact details of when it was made etc.
hot rod magazine did a story on the install and testing with a 55 chevy. i can not remember the issue but it is in 55.
I took that pic at Hotrodarama.......cool car, and the first time I had ever seen any 2x2 for a SBC. Nicson mostly made stuff for marine applications.....
Thank you. I have heard that Nicson was mainly Marine. I also heard that as soon as soon as they came out with this in early '55 that Chevrolet came out with the 4BBL. In 2007 I drove that car from Spokane to Tacoma for that show....it was great!!!
don't know any history, but given the rarity/value of that intake I would think they would have done a better job of making the rest of the motor look the part. That thing should be on a motor that looks straight out of 1956. staggered valve covers, vent pipe, road draft tube, 48's etc. are those brand new webers on that thing??
Sorry to disapoint you with my motor.....like most of us we work with what we got and keep adding.....my main goal was to get it on the road.

Some guys don't have the LUXURY of adding every "correct" part all at once before getting on the road.... One piece at a time.....shouldn't keep a guy from enjoyin' his ride.
So are they carter 2's? I just know I have a 2 barrel like that on the 51 caddy 331 in the shed and I don't know what it is. I think its carter.

Ya know I am embarrased to say that I don't remember.....I will look tonight and get back to you. I do remember I found the Carbs at an old Carb shop here in Spokane, I remember the guy telling me that they were NOS that would have come on a Mopar...I had him take the chokes off and adjust the float a bit because the carbs acutally lay forward and leek a little when hot.
Your side draft intake actually predates the side draft setup used on '53- 54 Corvettes. I've got a 1949 HRM with a picture of a 216 with your triple intake bolted to it. They were originally intended to be used with three Zenith side draft carbs used on International cabover trucks.
I can fully understand that, I just get a bit frustrated because it's one of those nice early parts that I've had an eye out for my 283! jealiousy can be a real ugly thing right It wasn't meant to be mean, I'm just one of those "god is in the details" kinda guys. that intake is a "holy grail" of making your chevy look old. I see so many guys that will build up a belly ****on catalog chevy and put ONE big dollar old piece of speed equipment on it because someone told them that's what should be on it to make it look old. too easily frustrated by guys with deep pockets and no real appreciation for what they are building.

I understand your point.....my car is a bit mixed up all the way around but it is a blast...I will post a picture of it later. My story is it was hainging in my uncles garage for years and I dont think he even knows how or when he got it.....it is on loan from him but isn't possession 9/10's of the law??? Edmunds made 2x2 intakes for V8s as well; I see them every now and again on ebay for Nailheads, and I saw one on an early Hemi at Billetproof Florida last year. It's interesting, because when the Nailhead came out in '53, they were offered with a 4bbl. Edmunds also offered a 2x4 version of their intake, and it looks just like the 2x2 except they simply gave it 4bbl carb mounts. I'd love to put on on a dyno and see how they perform; I wonder if the 2x2 would do better than the stock 4bbl, due to fuel distribution. I also wonder how much a pair of 2bbl carbs flow versus the small throttle blades of the old Carter 4bbl. -Brad
An Edmunds 2x2 for the 322/264 Nailhead just closed tonight on Ebay. $659.99 So much for the economy affecting rare parts prices on Ebay! Good grief...a few years ago, the couple I saw sold for about half that. The 2x4 version of the Edmunds has been creeping up in price when they show up on ebay too, but I think the last sold for about $450. -Brad
