Here is a blower flange that I am trying to ID. I think that it may be for a S.C.o.T. supercharger, but I can not find any flange dimensions. Maybe for a pruned 4-71? This flange looks bigger to me than the S.C.o.T. flathead setups. The flange is 5.25"x10" on the outside. 1" flange, 3.25"x8" inside. Vertical holes are 4.5" center to center and horizontal are 4.25" center to center. Anybody with an S.C.o.T. base gasket that they can check?
I realise that. I also realise that some manufacturers did that. Without seeing the intake as a whole, no way to tell how modern or old it is. Was just offering up a suggestion ;-)
Looks simular to the one on the S.C.oT. I have on my 331 Caddy in my 40 coupe. Just got back last night from Alaska. Have an original S. C. oT. top plate for 2 Strombergs that came with my setup, will go out this morning and get it out and measure it, post a pic if I can figure out how. I fabricated a top plate to mount a Crager dual 4s to a 471 adaptor, used 3/8 alum. Milled the Crager about a 1/4 in on the top and bottom for hood clearance. Still running that setup today. The one you show looks the top of mine, base was a little smaller. Hope to have the 40 at the CHRR in Bakersfield next month. You going down for it? Am going to be home for awhile now, so go ahead and ship all the stuff back when you get a chance. Later Davey
My S.C.oT. base bolts are: 6in c/c f to r (center bolts are on 3in c/c) and 3in c/c side to side. Measurements are aproximent as its tough to get to them.
That's really close to what a pruned 4-71 case would be. Bottom flange is roughly 9.5 x 5.25 outside, and 7.5 x 4 inside. And you would be drilling your own holes in the blower case so... it's really close. I could give you better dimensions if I had a gasket close, but I'm just pulling these numbers from a quick sketch I did so I could search through the scrap pile for aluminum plate.
Hi Dave-(No CHRR for me this year, but I may be at GG Scottsdale in Nov. I'll get your stuff in the UPS today or tomorrow for you.) Thanks for checking that. I figured that this was larger than a S.C.o.T. and your dimensions confirm that. I believe alchemy to be correct in that there were different sizes, but I thought the largest ones went on flatheads? I think that there was a Rodder's Journal artical a year or so back that covered the Italmeccia (sp?) S.C.o.T., Pepco, etc superchargers that we available in the early 50's. Anybody know off hand what issue that was?
We will be at GG Scottsdale again this year, the 40 has never missed one. Will have to stay in touch to get together then. We take the 78 GMC Motor Home and park it right by the entrance lane so we see all the action. Can show you all the "Caddy" powered stufff that Im working on. Am working on a "Cad 500" conversion for the GMC, (Jimmy), its the model that has the Olds Toronado front wheel drive train. Have not heard about the RJ article, would like to have a copy of it. Have heard that the May 2008 issue of Hot Rod Deluxe has a good article on 390 Cad engines, have been trying to locate an issue for sale but no luck yet, still hoping. Later, Davey
Thanks Kevin & CW- that was great info! I would have to say that this is probably for a pruned 4-71 based on those dimensions. The spacing on mine is almost identical to yours CW, with the exception on you having 8 mount points vs 6 on the picture I posted. Seeing as the case has to be drilled for the studs anyway I can see how there would be variences. Looks like it is time to find a 4-71 to start cutting on. I'll have to reread all your posts Kevin. CW- can you post a picture of your Beatty intake? I'd love to see it. I am going to get up a decent picture of this manifold (a Beatty piece?) once I get it cleaned up a bit.
Thanks Josh. I have it too, I just haven't had a lot of time in the evening to search. That and everytime I open an older RJ it ends up being another cover to cover read. I forgot you are close by. Thanks!
Not the best of pictures, but you get the idea. It s going to need some work to clean it up a bit, but these don't come along that often. It was polished at one point in its life and the "Tom Beatty" name was removed. That is OK though, it matches the Beatty snout I have, its had a hard life too. Now I have to find another 4-71 supercharger so I can prune it!
Since you got the mainfold and iv'e got the blower, i suggest tha you sell that useless crap to me. This one is from an ol SAAB fighterplane.
