So last week I found a steering wheel, column and steering box out of a 40 ford deluxe in the s**** metal bin at the Dept of Public Works Yard. So today i was like what the hell lets see if anything else showed up. 2- ford flathead generators 1- delco remy 12v generator 2- late 50s ford generators 2- lever action shocks 1- early 40s flathead water pump a pair of 8BA flathead heads I wonder what Ill find next week.
Sounds like you need to camp out, find this person and offer to clean out his garage for him. Or at least slip someone at the DPW a $20 and a case of beer to put that stuff aside and call you, or let you come get it every few days.
Last month I scored a 33-34 front axle from a trailer and 7 holley 94's and and A carb! You should see all the V8 sbc stuff getting crushed. Double humps and alum 4 barrel intakes. Makes ya want to cry. Can't save it all. Had to quit looking it was making me sick. Weak dollar is sending it all overseas.
Lucky me, in Southern Oregon, near the coast, there are only 2 salvage/s**** yards in 70 miles-- & I know both of the owners. I've been talking to them for about 3 years & have let them know that anything comes in I'll be there within a day. I'm retired so I can be to their yard at their call. One of them has told me of cars he's going to pick up next month pushed over a hillside 25 years ago & wants me to see what should be removed first. Small towns may be a desert or an orchard.
Bought a Say Why-And dual quad SBC intake at a junkyard two days ago, came in with a pile of aluminum for s****ping. The stuff in that DPW dumpster is probably coming from the same guy, I agree that you should find out who it is and try to get more before it gets thrown away. You might even consider leaving a note on the dumpster for whoever is throwing the old car stuff out.
I asked the DPW guy at the yard and he has no idea who it is. I offered him some hard liquor and money to keep an eye out for the guy and he said he couldnt do that and I would just have to come back everyday if I wanted to see if parts were there. But you are right I need to find out who this is.
Hang a sign in the dumpster with your first name and # on it. Tell him you're offering cash and liquor and he'll probably call.
Went to a swap the other day. A guy told he just picked up a 32 Ford frame and other old Ford parts at our local dump s**** iron pile. Gary
Do the old timer a favor and place a note with your phone number and maybe a old car photo to get his attention and offer to pick the rest of the stuff up. Parts is parts but it in nice to have a story to go with them...........maybe the rest of that '40 column is in the garage.
