WOW! All I can think of is it took Four Engines for Micky Tompson and the Summers Brothers to power a car over 400MPH. Can someone post a photo of the Poteet car?
I met George @ the HRR in Bowling Green a couple of years ago. He's a good ol boy and he ain't afraid to spend the money to get the neat **** !!
Dumb question.... I thought the big meet on the flats was over several weeks ago - you know the 60th anniversary event complete with hot rod invasion and all. So, are these new runs / records happen at the same time? Are they running again? Different sanctioning body? Or??? Gary
It's a private event for several teams, Nish, Burkland, etc. Landracing.com has lots of info and pics.
That just blows my mind, sort of like reading the Don Montgomery books and seeing some of the numbers guys were getting with 4 bangers in the late 30's and 21 stud motors in the early 40's. I reckon half the guys would be doing well to screw together a V8 that could do a 200+ p***, let alone 390 with half a motor. I don't know that I can really compute that speed from that engine. That has to be up there with F1 cars and look at how much they spend on their motors and tuning etc. MILLIONS!
I watched the runs from the measured mile (6). Very impressive. I had to leave Tuesday afternoon reluctantly. It's a very cool slow paced meet. The announcers kept us very well updated and the only problem was some clown in a helicopter went up and hovered over the timed mile and drowned out the sound of the cars (and bikes) running every time. I wished I had a bazooka. Wayno
And... when the second shoe falls around my place, I sure hope the looks of a DOHC I-4 in my little pickup will not get too much grief. Gary
After Speedweek came the BuB Cycle meet. All motorcycles and with AMA/FIM sanction. Folowing that came World of Speed which is sanctioned by the USFRA and is put on by them with a lot of help from SCTA Members. At WoS you run with the same rules and for the same records at Speedweek. Except USFRA alowes Hot Rods to run with only normal street safty items. So all the "Fans" who were crowding into Wendover for Speedweek could have run thier cars had they gone to WoS instead. After WoS is this Top Oil Challange which is for 5 Streamliners and 3 Motorcycle streamliners. Spectator admission is free. Sanction is FIA/FIM/ USAC. The next meet that I am aware of will be the World Finials which is the SCTA/BNI again and runs all the same as Speedweek. No doubt other things (Morman Metor) will be taking place as lone as weather alowes.
THANKS! Looking at that car just sent a chill over me, looks like a dagger with wheels, must be a new era of aero research.
On the technical side, the HRM article mentions the motor makes north of 1300HP, with a 50 (yes, five-oh) PSI turbo set up. Cripes.
Those guys know how to go fast, spend money, and have fun. Doesn't get any better than that!. AMAZING!
The HOT RODDERS prevail against the Honda F1 team!!!! They changed engines to a 180" normally aspirated and beat the f1 record of 246.9. The new record of 250.9 is now held by an American Hot Rod Team!!!! Keven
I sure want to know how a 180" normally asperated 2 valve 4 cylinder injected motor can push a car to 250mph. How much hp can they pull with that motor??????? --TV
That's impresive no dought..... I was there on Mon. and the wind gods were not happy.. 15 knot wind blowing west, then east, then.... Does anybody know how fast the elect. car went, the group from OHIO state. They were looking for bout 300 mph powered by couple g***es, turned into DC current, converted to AC wave, to an elect. motor front wheel drive,,,, now that was crazy engineering. Roach
I know Ron Main he is one hell of a guy he told me a few years back his car was going to go 400!!! I belived him and know he wont stop till he dose! The problem is the car is rear wheel drive not to many cars have acomplished the 400 mark without crashing with out it being all wheel drive its kind of a suicide mission!
depends on the fuel. last I checked a 180" 2v midget motor was capable of just shy of 400hp on alchohol. no idea on fuel
The feat is amazing and if they haven't made it p***ed the 400 mph goal they probably view the attempt as a failure. That little 4 cylinder engine is obviously making a lot of power but that has also got to be one slippery machine to reach that kind of speed. Must have been a hoot to watch.
