Here is one of the wheels I just painted a few weeks age. I wanted to do a the fade-away on the wheels and also paint some big white walls.

Heres a picture of the Wheely Dorf that I made to paint them on. It worked realy well and cheap. The wheel I bought at tractor supply. Put your wheel on it and give it a spin.

Here's what the wheels mounted to. A 1/2 bolt welded to a plate that's screwed to the saw horse.

The wheel is 16 inch out side diameter. Its almost a perfect fit for a 15 inch wheel.

Once you have the base coat painted your ready for the second color. give the wheel a spin and start with your fade color. Sometimes you will have to switch back and forth with the colors until you get it to look the way you want, then clear coat.

here's one taped off for the white wall. Note my white walls turned a lite brown once they were in the sun for a few days. Not a problem for me as I want them to look like they were painted a long time ago, so once the get dirty that's all the better for me.

Heres a old thread. I brought it back to the top for tech week. This works good for painting wheels even if your not doing the fadeaway. You can paint all sides of the wheel standing in one spot. I sure beats going around in circles around your wheel.

thats a good idea. you never really see fade away wheels, the only one i can think of is the the "Bad News" T.

  11. I had the wheels on my 54 faded. There are a few more here on the HAMB as well, I wish I had his lil tool tho, that thing is slick.

If you wanted to pinstripe the wheel evenly, you could always connect a small motor and belt to that wheel with a rheostat to control speed. That might be pretty slick. I may have to try it.

or you could just jack the back of your car up till the wheels are off the ground and put it in gear. not a very smart idea but iv seen videos of people grinding whitewalls into tires like that.

    Bicycle wheel works too.
Mount it to your drill press table, run the chuck against the tire to turn it.

Thanks all. It was one of those things that just seemed to work realy well. Not all of my ideas are as good.

Does anyone know how to change the title I thought that we used to be able to edit them but I wasnt abile to. I wanted to change it to, spray bomb magic and fadeaway wheel tech.
