I just moved to the Tampa area about six weeks ago and BenD just delivered my 58 Chevy last week. So last weekend I am out in the driveway washing the road grime off the 58. All the new neighbors are coming over to check my car out... which was really okay, good way to meet the neighbors. One of the guys tells me that I should call the local DQ that they have some kind of "car show" once a month. Wanting to check out the local car scene, I call the DQ. Turns out they have a Cruise-Iin every, yes every, Wednesday night. So I went last Wednesday, expecting a handful of cars, but I figure what the hell, the worse thing that can happen is I have a nice drive to the DQ, see a couple of cars, get an Ice Cream and come home. Well shit fire! When I get there, I find two dozen cars, at the peak, there must have been 85 cars. These guys know how to run a Cruise-In, no fees, come and go as you please, very laid back, very few lawn chairs ... and they had all types of cars.. hot rods, pro street, street rods, muscle, ricers, sports cars, trucks.. IT was way cool. I would'nt mind if the lost the cheesy 50's music. Didn't see any traditional stuff, which was a disappointment. One of the regulars told me that as the weather gets cooler down here and thru the winter it is not unusual for them to get 150 cars on a Wednesday night. I would love any opportunity to meet some Hambers from the West Florida area. Maybe we can do a "TAMPA" meet and greet some Wednesday night. Check this out... a 74 checker cab, with a big block, mounted on a two wheel drive suburban frame... kinda falls into the WHY category for me.. but to each his own...
We are just getting into the big car show season this time of year... Fall and spring are cool enough to have them. Find the Chik Fil A in Weeki Wachee on State Rd. 50 Thursday nights...
welcome to florida...there is a car cruise in at least 6 nights a week around here there are a lot of hamber's around the area.the poor boys meet most thursday nights at the cruise in on sr 50 at the chic filet always a lot of cars there..then there is dade city on the first saturday of the month and plant city on the 3rd saturday..those cruise ins always in the hundreds this time of the year...rooster
If you are near routes 56 and 75, take 75 north to rt. 50 brooksville. Go west until you see the cars. Or the suncoast parkway north to the spring hill exit. Go west to Mariner Blvd. North on Mariner to Rt. 50. Chik-fil-A is right around the corner. By the way, I know that DQ. I'll have to ride over and check it out.
The problem you run across in Central Florida is Quanity over Quality... BUT, Chick Fil A in Weeki Wachee is one of the BEST weekly cruise-in's in the Tampa/St Pete area. OLD TOWN, Orlando on Saturday nights is another nice gathering. I reccomend NSRA SouthEast Nationals coming up October 11th at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa, The "NEW" show in Daytona the last week in October (still missing all the details), and the Turkey Rod run in Daytona turkey Weekend. Webster has 2 swap meets (2 seperate swap meets, one at the fairgrounds and one at the Flea Market) every month. Oh...and if you don't mind a short drive, Moultie Swap meet is coming up in November 21-23 as well. No Show, but HUGE Swap meet and Car corral. damn...did I forget the Zephyrhills Swap/auction/car show Nov 13-16??? So much to do, so little time! Charles
Agggrrrhhhhhh!!! I forgot Billetproof Florida 2009, March 21, 2009 If last year is any indication, THIS will be the show to attend next year.
If the buzz from this years innagural Billetproof was any indication, next years will be off the hook. Even bigger next time... Mike
