I have a 1950 5-Window Chevy truck torn apart. The next step for me is to install a MII ifs. I am going with the Chassis Engineering (in Iowa) Bolt-In kit because my welding skills are not the greatest and I've heard nothing but good things about CE. Funds are short right now, which I know is common these days, so I don't want to buy their hub-to-hub kit. I found a '79 Pinto from a salvage yard to steal from. I know I can buy kits to replace the ball joints and bushings. Looking for advice on which kit to buy for the brakes, calipers, rotors, etc? I want to use the GM bolt pattern to match the rear I plan to use. Thanks for the help! Francis
go to stovebolt.com search the hipo forum (i'd do a link but i'm a computer dumbass)theres a thread started by a guy named keahi? from hawaii , does a blow by blow w/pics about an install of one of those.pretty slick.also check into ce bolt-in rear end kit.got one in my 49 its awesome.also used there motor mounts and tranny mounts.its a good company...................dave
I'm already in contact with him. I was looking for some more opinions on what to swap in for the break set up. How was the installation of the rear kit? Do you have any pics? Thanks, Francis
very simple.really nuthin to it.one thing you can dp with c.e. is to call them and tell them youre thinking about using one of their kits but want to see a instruction sheet .they will fax you one to take a peek at.as for pics ,let me see what i can do.as said i'm pretty muck an idiot when it comes to these gizmos..........dave
Does anybody know what stock parts I need to use to convert the bolt pattern to GM? I want to use stock MII spindles. I've seen the kits, but they are a bit vague on what "stock" parts are used. I don't want to use parts and then not be able to replace them later if I need to because I have no idea what they are.
The kits use standard Chevelle rotors and calipers, I believe that it's the bearings that are "special" to adapt them to the MII spindle. A donor pinto might not save you as much as you think, what will you end up keeping from it? control arms, spindles, springs? You'll ditch the stock rotors and brakes, and possibly the stock rack. Just my 2 cents... Rich
I'd call chassis engeering and tell them you want the crossmember and the brake kit only and buy the whole thing at once.
What whid said, and also do the same with Fatman. I used late 70's Firebird brakes, and Fatman had the perfect bracket to bolt the calipers right on. The really nice thing about a MII is that you can upgrade in the future, as $$ become available.
