One of the actors like McQueen I grew up watching. Definitely shaped my thinking in what "cool" was. Hell, my father even giggles and has a blast watching "cars" with his grandkids. Odd that that role made Newman seem even more badass to me.
Rest in peace mr. Newman. The movie cars is one of the only reasons my son (5 yrs. Old) will sleep in his own room. One of the best, and one of the last great actors. I hope they keep an eye on the parking meters up there. Forever cool hand.
Paul Newman: 1925 - 2008 Paul Newman- since 1969 was a street racer jacket wearing member of the Brotherhood of Street Racer. He use to street race a Volkswagen that was powered by a Small Block Chevy in Connecticut , then he went gun ho racing after the movie Winning. He won the Long Beach Grand Prix 5 times. Big Willie and Tomiko met Paul Newman in 1969 while he was filming a movie at Paramount Studios in Hollywood California about a New Orleans radio station. Councilman Bradley, soon to be Mayor Bradley, introduced them to Mr. Newman. That movie was called WUSA, the call letters to a radio station that the movie was about. Toward the end of the movie there was a big fight scene and Paul Newman asked Big Willie and Tomiko to be in the movie along with Brotherhood of Street Racer members in the big fight scene. Thousands of street racer members showed up and had a good time turning over cars and brawling with each other. The actor Tony Perkins bumps into Tomiko in the movie and says excuse me. This was the first of many movies Big Willie and Tomiko would appear in. Big Willie was upset over the news of Paul Newmans passing. May he rest in peace. Now that Tomiko is in heaven, she said to Paul Newman welcome home.

anyone remember that 15-20 years ago, while filming in LA, he had the chance to "strap in" to someones wingless sprinter at Ascot Park, and hung it right on the cushion like a veteran? i remember seeing the video of it on SPEED - my fav film "Nobody's Fool" and he was, nobody's fool - as to his marriage, his famous quote is "why go out for hamburger, when you have steak at home!" I remember going to the Detroit Grand Prix a couple times as a kid, and once Dad and I were standing in a parking structure watching cars go by. I loved his 280Z, as Dad had one, and would wait for it to cruise past. Well, as luck would have it, after the practice we were watching, it turned out we were standing right above his trailer. Somewhere, I've got a polaroid of him waving to us. RIP. And thanks. Jay
Paul Newman was one of my favorite Actors of all time, a class act...Cool Hand Luke was a true classic movie...I could watch it over and over and never get bored R.I.P. Paul
RIP DOc Hudson too. they couldn't have picked someone better for the character. I need to find the story, but during the cars promotional stuff, they put a hudson body on a stock car frame, and Newman tried to go out and set a new track record with it. Not only did he play the character,he became the character. It was in AP news in Sundays paper. I would love to have seen some video or even stills of him hauling ass in that thing. Very very sad we lost him.
