The Realmad is hideous from any angle, regardless of how wonderful the workmanship is. The entire roof, for example, doesn't fit the body at all, and the headlight treatment is just nasty.

Of course, that's just mine opinion, and yours may differ.

The guy certainly has talent. No question.....I just don't like his designs. everything is too modern. I like old cars to be old cars.

ha,ha,ha...... They're is no excuse for building an ugly car. What were they thinking??

I don't care much for his choice of wheels. (some of the time) But he can teach us alot
about improving the body lines of a car.. Chopping and or section a car just one inch is
amazing the difference it makes. Chip is king of subtle changes, need to over look the
    wheels and study his design.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

So many custom cars strike me as being the victim of the builder changing things for the sake of changing them, rather than making improvements.

The '55 Nomad is one of my all-time favorite cars. They're like Deuces: all you do is change the wheels, tires, and stance, and you're there.

You guys are right...this red and black car is ugly. The one I'm referring to is a deep blue '55 which, I'm pretty sure, was was built by Steve's. It's very tasteful, radical, but yet it keeps the basic Nomad look.

  10. the funny thing is that SIMMS built a matching harley and bike trailer that turned out KOOL...they showed as a set at the REAL grand national for the 50th,,,,,oh yeah the hood was made outa a chopped up 50 merc hood............

that red and black car is a mess, I think the one with the 40's front clip is a better car compared to that.
imo- there are 3 different angles with the roof posts, and the paint divider runs opposite of all those angles.
Then to make matters worse, the paint is set up like a 56 210, but is painted wrong for that style. 56 210's had 2 tone like this; roof, top half of car, and then bottom half matches roof. the actual paint divider would be just over the front wheel.
either way it looks wrong to me: painted like a 55 with 56 chrome, or painted like a 56 belair with the wrong side trim.
They could have saved themselves a lot of hassle by putting some repop 56 1/4ers on a craprice wagon.

  12. Now you're just being silly.

I agree that red and black isn't real nice, but the blue one that Chris Ito? designed, that was sweet for a modern interpretation of a Nomad.

    Here it is. 'NewMad'.

    Heaps more pics here... http://www.classyauto.com/v/Chevrolet+Nomad/57914

BTW, Chris is a HAMBer, although I haven't seen much of him lately. Too busy doing work for the big auto companies now, I believe. :)

I'm also with roadsters.com on this one though. Nomads are so cool out of the box that less really is more.

The Newmad is better than the Realmad, but it still looks like they took a Nomad and tried to make it look more like a Nash Rambler

I admit extreme prejudice, but when you talk about LESS is MORE, Squeeg's old Nomad was easily one of the best around. Doug (Squeeg's son) prefers it with the Halibrands, as in the pic, but originally, it had a set of chromed Buick wires on big and small blackwalls. BEAUTIFUL.

Can't locate any better pics of this. Anyone have the Hot Rod or Amercian Rodder that featured it? Early to mid 80's....

  19. I've seen a few that I liked, but the Nomad was a beautifull car in stock trim. Hard to improve upon perfection.

Tried to buy this car several times in the early 90's. It was parked in a driveway for many years around the corner from my highschool. Totally neglected and had a license plate that said "NOOMAD."

Years later I am looking at this car on the Salinas Boys/Cole Foster's web site and there are pictures of the car near completion with the "NOOMAD" plate. My jaw dropped. Made sense, when ever I went to the door to inquire about the car there was an asian family member that would say, "It's not for sale" and you read who the owner is....Henry Gong. Glad to see he actually had a plan and had it carried out by the right person.

Here is a version of a Corvett Nomad as it was being built in Dallas about a year ago. It's just about finished today but I havent been able to get a new shot of it. It was made from an old field car, it's sectioned and the rear is metal worked to resemble a Corvett also. I made the hood out of steel but couldent get the guy to let me louver it. I think a corvet with louvers would be different.

safari, but pretty much the same as a nomad....
custom, but not the best looking, I think they were customizing without direction.
It looks alot better without the busy paint job.

This is the MadVette built by Cloyas Webb. He lived here in West Tn. and was a good friend of the family. I think he did very a great job recreating the Waldorf Concept Car. This was the last car he finished before his tragic death. Sorry about the bad picture but you can see a full article in the Oct. 2004 Super Rod Mag.

Wooooohhhh!!! lets bring this one back up top....lol I've read through this thread and it seems to me that yes Nomads are COOL...so heres what I reckon..in case anyone cares!!! :D:D:D

first ones a bone stocker..COOL cos its unmolested, beautifully restored (i presume)and gettin rarer every year...

second ones a radical Kustom...COOL because somone with balls and to whom nothings sacred.... cut on it,repowered it,put big ass wheels on it ...etc,etc (which is traditional ain't it?:p)

and the third is ...COOL...cos Marshall Chesrown (who as I understand it..owned this Nomad for round 30..yup 30 years) felt he poss wanted a change so- bearing in mind the original factory corvette link- got his car entirely redesigned based round a corvette...its not a traditional car granted...but IMO its fu%#kin COOL too!!
