Someone uploaded this great Dragnet TV episode from 1954 onto youtube in 3 parts. Good slice of the way it was, like the contributor says, it's like a Felsen story. The hotrod clubs, NHRA, even Wally Parks is mentioned. Classic stuff the way it was portrayed in 1954. "I don't know why the police allow cars like that on the street." Pt 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VevciHMqhs&feature=related Pt 2 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UPI9VlIPdxQ&feature=related Pt 3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uutRjBk7gA&feature=related
it is because of these cars that made California so strict and why they started cracking down on lowering and so forth. and I sure as hell hope they gave that fuck more than 5 years.
they should have arrested that women, for some bad,bad acting and trying to talk while drinking...other than that,i like this quote"been working on her for 5 years, got 1200$ in her"..dam thoses definately were the days...what would $1200 get you now over 5 years,a couple gallons of gas?
IMDB to the rescue. Name is Diane Jergens, born 1935, so she was 19 when that episode was filmed. And she's not in a rest home, but she'll serve you a drink. -KK
nice. i just watched it. are those episodes available on dvd? too bad they don't make tv like that anymore.
Even back in the day they knew the difference between a real hot rod and "yo-yo's, junkies", I mean rat rods. They didn't like rat rods back then either and would've kicked them out of the club. So, it's even traditional to not like rat rods. Awesome episode and never saw that one before. Good find. Some sweet looking cars too.
That is super cool. My buddy showed me the Munster Episode the other day with Barris' "Dragula". Another cool piece of hotrod history.
Webb was good as a Detective but he always interjected cornball into the shows. The husband was Michael Ansara, a noted actor in time..
darn hot rods... they sould be banned from the streets! I think Friday was made of cardboard with a guy behind him pulling a string to make his mouth move. hmmm... that lady is in Moke hill... maybe I'll go in and visit next time I visit my brother and see if she is a Grandma-ilf
Would have been a lot cooler and more out reaching to the hot rodders if they had been the ones that tracked down the car and called the cops.
Lots of memories. I was 10 when this was made. I hated to see that hammer come down at the end of the show....the next thing I heard was OK Tommy... time for bed. The early shows like this one said Mark VII Limited at the end the later shows said Mark VII Productions. I'm sure everyone was dying to learn that. Now I have to hunt to see if they have any Highway Patrol episodes. I fell in love with 55 Buicks from that show. 10-4 I'm impressed with the correct information that the good hotrodder spit out about his mill.
I was younger than ten when Mark VII Limited produced Dragnet and I hated that hammer because it scared the hell out of me to see those metallic looking hands and hear that hammer ringing. I have a VHS copy of the Highway Patrol episode from about '55 where an older brother has been sending money to his younger brother from prison. The younger one builds a killer 32 highboy roadster with a souped up Olds engine. And they use it as a get away car to rob payroll checks from restaurants. Dan Mathews plugs the older brother at the end and drives away.
This one is awesome too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JawdbAL7lg&feature=related This one had a great title- but didn't live up to today's definition http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DBF9vN6-YM8&feature=related
They had a pretty good technical advisor on that show, the way the kid described the car seemed pretty accurate. A bad example would be the Transformers movie, where the girl looks under the hood at the EFI engine and says something like, "Nice Holley double pumper,"
