FOUND A '28 MODEL A TUDOR SEDAN TODAY....

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 'Flyin' Dutchman', Jul 22, 2004.

  1. Tonight we went to some guys place to ride BMX at his backyard trails. This guy is sponsered big and has all the cool **** out there. They have a company at home with a huge garage out back. I'd never been there before and we show up, walk into the garage where they were wrenching on their bikes and there were 3 European old timers there and the Model A.

The car was in complete original state, except for the motor. There was an old Opel engine in it. I didn't study the car too well but on first sight it looked really good to me. Almost no rust and very, very complete.

That guys dad, who owned it, showed up later and I asked him if he wanted to sell it... he said he wanted 6000 Euros for it, but I think I could talk him into selling it for 5000 Euros. That'd be around $6000,-...

Please tell me guys. Would that be a good price for a complete car as this one. It's of course not in top condition (then it would be a shame to hot rod it) but it looks like this could be a perfect project...

It would be my first and I'd really appreciate it if you guys could give me as many info on these cars as possible.
If you think the price is right of course.

What kind of stuff should I look at really good?
How about the wood that is in those cars. It looks like a pain in the *** to rebuild the wooden parts. My eye fell on it and the wood looked like it would need some work.

    Please help me out here.

    Thanks,

    Maurice...

P.s. I didn't have my camera with me (bummer!). I might go back there in a week or two to ride BMX again and then I could take a few pics.

That is more than I would pay for one here...
But since that car is already in Holland, you are saving some cash in shipping.
If it has a ( original) Dutch ***le it would be worth a lot more to me than the going rate here, just so I would not have to deal with the RDW ( Dutch DMV ).
If they still are the way they were when I lived there, it would be worth some money to me if I could legally sidestep them...

Dood! You dirt jump? Nice to know I'm not alone on here. I'm one of the OG 9th steet diggers here in Austin and write an occasional article for DIG. Would love to hear from ya on a BMX level.

That A sounds too pricey, but I dunno what they go for over there.

Get him to come down a little and that sounds like a great deal for a car in Europe..

You couldn't even get that kind of a deal on a gl*** rod with a rolling ch***is and a complete - albeit odd - drivetrain.

  5. If it's a running, driving car with gl***, interior, fenders, ***le... and a straight body, no rust... little or no dents, it sounds about right.

If it's a project car in need of everything, it sounds a tad high... but then again, how many Model A's do you see over there?

A basic running/driving "tour car" will bring around $10,000 over here... take some pics and post them, then I'd be able to give you a better idea.

If it's an A Tudor sedan, there's not much wood, only for tacking upholstery, it's not a huge problem, but of course that depends on your experience and what you want out of it.
The price sounds high, but if it's a driver, maybe OK.
If you have the money, or can get it, take it with you, that way he knows you're serious.
As already mentioned, pics help to get an idea of the real value.
    GO FOR IT.

I only think it's lame if you're 35 years old and still riding a 10 speed with the handlebars turned up backwards... now if you're 35 and riding a Stroker, that's COOL!

The car has everything. The interior looks a little bad though but for the rest, no dents, straight body, only rust there was was in the right hand running board. All the gl*** is there. I'm gonna think about it.

Bart is my bro! I hooked him up with some of the OG Dogtown BMXers(that's right) a while back; John Palfreyman and Thom Lund, to counter his whiny boy Stacey Peralta interview. A conflict between Stacey and JP at the Firehouse pool in the early 70s started the whole skate/bmx war. JP was a true ruler at both disciplines and found and cleaned most of theold pools, in cluding the Keyhole. Here's a pic of Thom at the Keyhole I sent him... [IMG]

And one of JP on the first Redline ever...

scroll down to Feb 2003 for the story there. And I'm an old skater too, so don't think I'm hatin'

Haha... Start skating... I did about a year ago. I just felt like doing it again.
I used to skate in the late 80's/early 90's. I got back into it a little but I kinda just cruise around and skate a few pools.
But BMX... I started riding in the early 80's and still do it. Sometimes I get the feeling like I'm getting an old dude you know. My knees are ****ed! All these kids doing their crazy tricks. I'm happy when I can still do my tabletops, toboggans, X-ups. I rather do 1 trick stylish and flow the whole damn trails, then do 10 tricks ugly! I never really gave a **** about freestyle. I'm a dirt guy. Trails man, that's where it's at for me. Leave the skateparks for the skaters. I think nowadays the whole BMX scene is often copying the skaters. Like going to the Baldy pipeline and stuff like that... It's cool what they do but sometimes I think it's getting too much.
BTW I can't really find the right face with the name Ryan Corrigan at this moment. That name sounds very familiar though.
Chris Moeller is a ruler!! Met him a couple times and he is in a movie I made, crashing at Sheep Hills and telling a funny story about a gofer that popped up in a berm and got his head smashed by a BMX...

  17. Crow, you see that pic of me..? Bart shot it back in '99 at our local trails...

    Small world isn't it...

That old bowl stuff is pretty *****in'!!

In America, $10,000 buys a restored Model A in Great shape, very good paint, nice upholstery. $5000 gets you a driver.

  19. I still have my BMX I got over 25 years ago.My nephew is racing it now and my boy will be next year!
It still has my numberplate on it.
Bout tens years ago we went to all the old bikeshops in town and raided their ba*****ts for vintage BMX parts.
I used to race for a big bike store here in town and used to rip up the skatebowls.Don't ride much now,too frickin old and the knees are beyond shot.
My bike is a Delta Pro USA frame.Like to know some history on it......Shiny

  20. cole had a rad ****oose built at the ****oose shop, the drag car shop, probably one of the first. i always hated that old school bmx ****. it was a grim reminder of the fate that enevitabley claimed me. age and bmx are like fortier and being a father, they just don't mix. i knew bart dejong a little from vic murphy, and steven prantle. bart was an og dirt bro, im a dirt brother. even have the jacket worn by james arrington in Ride On. I ride for vics new company FAILURE. if you look on their site im the ***git with the Sinners tattoo on his chest. Brent Linder and I are the only Northern California Dirt Brother Nomads. Brent gave me that BSA that ruins all you ***gits lives everytime someone sneeks a picture of it behind my back. Gonz and Pete Agustin talked about the dogtown bmxers but i never saw pics, that ****s neet. Lee Sultimeyer would be stoked.Brent stole Dave Parricks bike at a comp here in like 92, Dave was an Austin local, and Brent rode for Pete's company "stolen bikes" back then with Ronnie Farmer. its a small world, small and gay. I used to work for solid bikes in Sacramento, and was part owner for a while, when I met Germ and eventually Cole, via the internet, now me and Germ are lovers and junkies in love and I proof read Coles articles for HOTBIKE like when Ed Roth used to sign his name on David Mann paintings. BMX ****s as much as hot rods.

  21. Ryan Corrigan rides for FBM, I dont think he's in Austin anymore but he used to live down the street from the Ritz off of oak. I jerked off on marcus wilke's girlfriends sleeping bag that night it ruled she was a hippy, but hot. as a punishment from god i got mono, corrigan had a rad roomamate with leopard print tattoos all over his face and he rode a ten speed and wore dresses, ****ing great place. Mad Dog has a rad BMW motorcycle, a real early one. I tried to be the foreman at S and M when they first started making **** in house, i know troy mcmurray pretty good and smoked mucho weed with mckinney, moellers bike is really neat, neater because he never talks about it. but he's a rocker and I'm a mod so it never worked out.

  22. oh and while were on the topic of whos a gay bmxer on here, I think that Momentum Photo guy on here is this dude Blake. he's a camera ***, and I think we used some of his pics for an ad we did for solid a while back. i think he rides, otherwise he might just be one of the moto/fox/mountain bike kooks that came around after they realized bmx was big and gay and full of potential endor*****ts, or maybe i have him confused with someone else. either way bmx should be a "don't ask/ don't tell" policy on here, we'll just have gay signals like when ***gits communicate in public places, right Blake ? wink wink blow pucker...

Go ahead any buy the Model A... it sounds like a great start to a hot rod. If the body is nice, the the money is worth it...

As for BMX,, back in the early 80's I had a Redline Proline, Flight cranks, Alloys (and tuff wheels for big dirt jumping), that was about the time the alloy parts were becoming available,, do they still make the flutted alum set post (gold red and blue I think were the only colors).. Loved that bike...

  24. The A sounds like a good deal in Europe.

As for BMX, lots of us closet riders here on the HAMB, not many of us can NAMEDROP like the Harvester [IMG] You run with serious company dude. I still get my bike out when the trails are too muddy for the MTB and ride a little street. I am seconds from downtown and lots of cool ****. Makes me feel good.

HARVESTER.... I think I met you in Paso in 2002. I was completely ****faced. At the bowling alley when the place closed down.
You were with Cole. I remember him saying something like: "Hey that's the Dutchman" and somehow I got talking to you about the Dirt Bros, Vic Murphy, Bart de Jong...

As for the Model A... I'm gonna think about it. The guy doesn't really have it for sale or anything. He'll sell it, but we're both not really in a hurry.
I have to keep in mind that this is gonna be a 2 to 3 year building project. Maybe even longer. But, I can LEARN A LOT from that. And I could build it completely the way I want.
On the other hand I'm already sick of not having a cool car to enjoy right now. I have to ride my Nissan ****box all the time. So an unfinished project (in a further stage) that'd be for sale would be cool too. Or a complete car of course. And I wanna finish my Triumph too upcoming winter.
So... I'm gonna make up my mind.

  27. Maurice, I,ve got loads of experience with the model A over
here. If it has an opel engine it more than likely came from an eastern european country(does,nt matter). Anyhow if
you go after it and the owner is an older guy he will
probably be calculating in our old currency. 3 years ago he
would have asked 10000 guilders.Thats 4500 euro and more
than enough for a rough and ready tudor. If it,s a real tight
car he,s on the ball with his 6000 euro.

Leopard Larry is still a good friend that I see almost daily. Once he came to do some tree work with me in sororityville and ripped the crotch out of his pants in the first twenty minutes, worked all day with his **** hangin out and blondes walkin by averting their eyes. Beautiful cat that Larry, hilarious.
