Some things just look better with paint or primer.

I'm on the fence on this one.. I like it in some cases, not in others. I think it works an a Highly modified HOT ROD, but on an original car, or full fendered car.. It looks like a pricey add-on that doesn't flow..

...on a Miller race car, the chrome grille is to die for...

you see it most often in 30s or 40s vintage B&W photos, and the dealer option thing is certainly true..Ive got dealership phots somewhere on this computer of new ones in a showroom with chrome grilles, so can I suggest that it was a trend...but mainly a trend that predates hotrodding to some degree?
The 32 was Marketed as a 'Baby Lincoln' so chroming the grille shell got you closer to lincoln-ness..I guess.
For the record, I like it a lot on fendered cars..

  10. Some of the last British 32's had their grill shells chromed, not sure if the factory or dealers did it, to intice customers to buy them. Tony Thackers Deuce book mentions it, and a car surfaced in England with one a few years back.

I think it looks good standing alone on a hotrod like that black 32 with no hoods or sides, and the grill painted black.

  12. I think it was done by the factory, the last british built ones, also had 34-looking front fenders. The ones built at the other european factories didnt have the crome grills og 34 fenders.
    And i dont like it

I think it's worth considering... In a way, it reminds me of how vintage military aircraft were painted, with colored spinners and inlets / cowls that were done-up in flashy colors by specific squadrons. Or of vintage sports cars and USAC racers that had often had a colored ring around the radiator inlet painted in a contrasting color. Jimmy Clark's Lotus' come to mind, which had a yellow ring around the nose of his dark green car. And it would be great for easy dead bug removal and it sure would eliminate the stone chips on your shell. You will also need an absolutely perfect shell to pull it off, eh? Gary

Several years ago I bought a Chromed shell and insert at the LARS, paid 750.00 for it with the intention of striping it and using it. It was the straightest 32 shell I have ever had. Didn't have the heart to strip that piece of history so I gave it to a friend of mine that collected 32 shells and inserts. Made a great wall hanger along the 30 plus stock shells he had.

I'm glad this thread is still going because it's definitely something that should be discussed since most people did not know that they had came like that from the factory. It's still up in the air whether I'm going to try it on my coupe, but one thig is for sure. I have not seen an example that looks like total Donkey Dick so there is a great deal of hope for this look.

the model b was made in england up until 1935 and it was the 35s that had the chrome shells to help sell them, they also had fenders that resembled 34s from the side
