So in my adventures in looking for a 30/31 Model A coupe I keep stumbling across these unbelievable deals on the interwebs and have yet to snag one....I would say that the more rust on the car,the higher the price. Maybe I'm just some young whippersnapper that doesn't know the value of a true cl***ic or see the Ratrod potential?? One of these great deals that cross my path recently stuck out that I would like to share with you all, although I haven't went to look at it yet but I will and get pics(I'm sure the picures don't do it justice)......check out this "Treasure" 1931 Model A - 5 window - The engine has a 1940 Ford Flathead V8-3 speed stick. No ***le. Drives Great!! $9200. For you Model A lovers this is a real TREASURE!! I guess I should look for something more affordable...like a 32
Stock runners are usually cheaper than hot-rodded ones. But a running stocker is going to be 5-7K+ I sold a nice but not perfect body with doors for about half of what that updated coupe is going for. To me its a little high at 9200, but then again, it depends what else was done besides the 40 flatty, etc. I depends what you want and what you are willing to step up for. If you are looking for a running coupe for $3000, you are going to be looking for a long time.
Its not that great of a deal but it really depends on who you ask ! I found a 28 29 ford light truck all restored 160 miles on the resto for 9500 bo .The guy never drove it and its really sweet . Ive seen finished rods sell for a few more thousand and stock 30 31 model a stockers for 6000
My 29 Tudor(granted it's not a coupe) was bought from the son of the original owner. 4300 original miles and one repaint. No rust. Ran perfect. $6800 on Ebay. Sold everything I wasn't going to use to one restorer (again on Ebay ) for $4500. Got flamed for my choice in hotrodding the car but again it was my choice and I ended up with a rust free complete body for $2500. They're out there providing you're not expecting to find a running 32 coupe in a barn along with the farmers daughter.
Best deal I've seen lately is the guy who snagged a 30 31 coupe at an auction in PA I think earlier this week for $500.00. It was sitting on a frame and had axles if I remember. From the pics it looked like it was salvagable.
That really isnt bad for a driver. Th no ***le is a kick in the nuggets. I may be able to make some calls if ya want I know where a few are. One is a sedan for 3500. Its a roller. Windshield frame was stolen. Pm me if ya want.
The price is a bit high; keep looking or offer him 7k if you really want it. Henry made 5 million model A's, and while they're not dirt cheap, they're still plentiful and affordable when compared to 32-34's. There's a lot of bottom fishing going on out there with sellers. One look at ebay and you'll quickly notice that a certain percentage of sellers will have rusty cars listed WAY higher than the going market (what other comparable cars sell for).
There are many in Hemmings every month, in considerably better shape for the same ball park figure and probably negotiable. A running restored Coupe in average condition can be bought under $10 G all day long. This one is overpriced in my opinion and the no ***le would drop it to $5000. in a hurry.
I don't know what world ya'll are living in but I wish I was there! LOL I've been looking for a Model A now for 3 years and this is what I have seen: 30 body, no floors, no wheel wells, just body - 5500.00 Complete restored A's - nothing under 12 grand 34 Sedan body - no floors no firewall just body, 25 bullet holes and a tree fell across roof - sold for 3500.00 on and on it goes. I know some of you are finding "deals" it just doesn't seem to be happening to me!
Like real estate, it's location, location, location. If you live in a major population area, prices will be higher. A buyer today needs to be willing to travel some to land the best prices. I thought the 5K for just a solid body was a bit high for Georgia, but the fellow who bought it recently moved here from California, so it seemed a good deal to him.
