    It’s been a long time.

    What… 1997’ish Ryan???

    Me, you, ****…. Tadpole?

    Geez.

You guys remember what it felt like when you found like-minded people? Jaded from the cruise ins, lawn chairs, billet, tweed… I DO NOT have 10k to build an engine! You mean there’s other people who just want to drive old cars?!?! Holy **** man!

I started my journey with a stupid little website. Wanted to show other people what I liked. Home built. Ingenuity. Wide whitewalls?! You mean “ganster tires” the tire store guy told me… wow, never thought those tires would look good on a 56 Chevy…

More and more people found my little site. Lotsa emails. “You goin to Paso??” Uhhh… what’s Paso? Did that little show and my life hasn’t been the same since…

Along comes a little book called Hot Rod DeLuxe. Email lists raged… Petersen said it was a one-time deal. Lotsa emails, rallying of the troops, tireless effort from one… and another came out.

Then the news… No more. Ever.

See, I was payin attention. Saw what people wanted I guess. Figured I could journey into this little publication deal. How bout we do a magazine? I got lotsa help. Articles, pictures, some advertising. Here we go…

Let the world know it was ready. Then waited. Checked the mail box daily.. *****in! We got 2 orders today! Then more the next day…. And more… and more… Holy ****, what have I done?? …

I’m getting emails, meeting people… people who shouldn’t know who I am. All cause of this little book. The attention was getting to be a bit much… t shirts, stickers… what a trip.

Let’s take 250 books to the Hot Rod reunion. I didn’t bring any home.

This little deal is starting to cost me some money here. 1500 or so books and it was costing me .25 each book to sell… guess I wasn’t as smart as I thought…

#2. We got some money to play with here, make it better. Little color on the cover. Way better printing. Found a company to print em and send em out…

Guess it had to end. “Where’s my book?” ****in company took my money and ran… I think they sent out like 1000 issues then bailed… I didn’t even have the list of people who ordered! I had a ****load made at ****in Office Max or something to cover the people who sent me emails… as soon as that died down, I shut down the website.

I felt like an ***. Took care of the people I could. Guess a publishing empire I was not!

Lotsa “little books” followed. Good ones too. Made me feel good. “well gawddamn, if you can do it, so can we!”

During all this, I keep tinkering with cars. Doin things my way. Built up a nice group of friends who keep me busy enough to stay home and make a living.

Some of my close friends who know the whole magazine deal bug me every once in awhile.. “You gonna do another?”

    “You really should”

Maybe. My way. On my terms.

    Drive it!

The men who take a chance, act on their dreams, and fill a void make it better for all of us.

    Thank you.

    KUSTOMS BY TSR

Have both of em and a t shirt all which are stuck away and I bring them out for "special occasions".

You did play a big roll in getting "the word" out about traditional cars. You and HRD changed the entire build of my '48 Chev to a trad custom and I have never looked back. I still remember when I hit the road with it up here people didn't know what to think, "looks like one of them cars from California" hahaha.

Much thanks from this guy for your efforts.

Hey Killer, your efforts were very much appreciated. Your website was where I discovered the HAMB. Both my copies of TSR still have a place on my living room table and I still run the stickers on my heaps. Oh yeah, I still wear the t-shirt once in a while too.

    Thanks a bunch Jason
