I'll be there...cruising and volunteering. Of course it helps to live in the area . Not exactly the same as pre-Katrina and there's a lot of roadwork on Hwy 90 right now but I heard there's over 4000 cars pre-registered now and we usually get another 900 or so registering during the week. I'll be looking for you...come on down!
I will be at the swap meet, I'm cleaning out my garage. I'll be in the swap meet area. Most of my parts are mid-fifties Ford. Tim
The very last segment on that episode Dennis Gage is riding in the backseat of my pals blue 50 Fod convert to give his ending for the show......you can see me in it, I was riding in the front on the passenger side
Lucky's Rod & Kustom will be set up in the swap meet area. Denise if you're going come by and say hi. I'd like to be in one of your cool trip stories.
I would certainly stop if I was going down again but I'm heading to the Hunnert Car PileUp this weekend. Come to the Meet & Greet at the Lonestar RoundUp in April in Austin and get your photo taken
just got back from the long beach parade--got soaking wet but still had a good time-lots of neat stuff running around---weather should get better after tommorrow
weather was awesome today! I finally put my roadster back together last night after it being apart for a year, I had replaced carbs, oil pan, radiator and also rebuilt the 4 speed, but had not had any time to do a test run. I listened for parts falling off all day, but everything worked great and had a great time at the Biloxi block party. If you see a green primer A roadster with skinny tires it'll be me. give me a shout..
We went thursday to sunday. It was nice but too much traffic. The cops in Biloxi were less than cordial and even made people stop walking on the sidewalks. That is getting bad. Can't walk to waffle house after 11pm....wow. We did see some nice cars and got to test our radiators for desert operation with the traffic lights so messed up. If the cops would have got out of their cars and waved the traffic through it could have been much nicer. We will just keep going to the hamb and the hell with Biloxi. It's sad that we have been going there for many years and now to see it getting so stupid with the rules. Guess that messes up anything that sees success. Only spent a few thousand with my family so I guess the town won't miss me much.... I understand to cops getting on cars that get too wild and fast but a tire chirp, come on......
Biloxi is tough on burnouts and the like, but not as bad as last year, when some were ticketed for revving engines. The real fun is in Ocean Springs, where there was a designated burnout area and the and the cops were cool. Fine if the crowd is in a safe spot. While I don't agree with the gestapo tactics, fact is, with that many cars out and about on the beach trying to chirp tires, some dope is going to get over excited trying to do a monster burnout, and end up breaking an axle or losing it. I saw a few cars get sideways on the beach, with bystanders lining both sides, its only a matter of time before someone gets hurt, and it'll be over for all of us.
I worked (volunteer) traffic direction/control at the Jones Park registration area and I have to agree with the comment about the police not doing anything to help traffic flow. All they seemed to do was ride around in their cars or drive through the area in their golf carts...they sure as heck didn't help us trying to keep people from parking where they weren't supposed to park. Probably were hoping we couldn't control 'em so they could ticket 'em.
I went 8 years straight before Katrina. I would love to start going back but there still aren't enough rooms and the room prices are 2-3 times what they were pre-Katrina. We typically stay 5-6 days and $150 plus a night is kinda steep.
I was there. We stayed at the Cajun RV park, next to Super 8 in Biloxi. I was expecting more, but like the poster above said, the police kept most of the fun to a minimum. I am wishing I had registered and went to more of the venues instead of waiting for the fun to start. I was also suprised at the small number of traditional style rides present. I've never seen more Chevelles in one place before.....
This comment doesn't surprise me and I'll tell you why. There are so many more events beign held for strickly traditional styled hot rods and customs now that folks don't feel the need to have to attend an "open" event. The last time I went to CTC was 2000 or 2001 and at that time I had virtually nothing to choose from as far as events go besides the NSRA and GG. Now it's a different story and while I love the GulfCoast area down there I can't ever see myself returning to that event as long as the Hunnert Car PileUp, Jalopy Drags, Day of the Drags, GG Bowling Green, etc are all in the month of Oct to choose from. I'm sure others feel the same way.
I could not agree with you more.I was there for my my first time and in my model a. though it was not a total disappointment i was really amazed at the over flow of late 60's and early 70's cars. And the traffic was insane,it took us two hours to get to the casino.I guess not all the car events can measure up to the Lone Star Roundup ............Just my two cents
Have to agree, my traditional roadster was way out of place in a sea of chevelles, camaros, mustangs and vettes. A few people asked why I had "thin" tires on it, but some got it, and appreciated the details. No matter, I had fun, it still beats raking leaves all weekend. If the organizers made it traditional only, down here they'd have maybe 25 cars attend. Next year i'll prolly take my 67 Camaro ragtop, and save the roadster for a better show out west.
I saw these both at Edgewater Mall one Friday and one Saturday. The roadster owner said he built it in 1961 and has had it since. The Cops were rough but not as crazy as last year.
