Worst trades ever. Everybody's made one, share yours!

I traded my freedom to marry a woman who turned out to be a crazy bitch. Worst trade of my life.

I then traded two businesses, my home, lost $500,000 in assets and my credit rating to get rid of her. That was expensive, but still the best trade I ever made.

 

had a 69 camaro ss 396 12 bolt rear posi, cowl hood factory gauges 400 auto super nice car saw a 68 chevy pickup that was lowered and had to have it 6 cylinder 3 speed no heater and had so much bondo a magnet wouldn't stick to it still makes me sick but that was 25 years ago

 

A running 352 FE for a true, numbers correct, BOSS 302.

Guy didn't know what he had... and I didn't know what I had traded for at first. I was pleasantly surprised. That engine is worth more than 99.9% of the vehicles i've ever owned. Still gets started on the engine stand every once in a while.

Needing a hot rod to drop it in.........

 

My se quadangle for partial payment for my 79 lowider.I worked in a bicycle shop and his kid liked it.I needed wheels to go further than my leggs would pedal.That was 1984 and i still have the lowrider.

 

Not a trade, but when I was all jacked up to buy my 65 Riviera like 7 or 8 years ago I sold a really straight, running & driving 63 Olds Dynamic 88 2 door. It was white, with one of the nicest interiors I've ever seen, and a healthy 394. I sold it for a $1000. What a fucking dumbass I am.

 

I had a 65 GTO with tri power and drove it home from an old guy who bought it new, paid $100. I was fifteen at the time and had been trading cars with the help of my dad for 2 years. I rebuilt the engine and got tired of it....... I traded it for a bug that didnt run and had a hole cut in the top I cant believe my dad let me do that!! He said he was letting me learn from my own screw ups.....darn it..

 

Deep in my cups at the time, traded a 69 BSA Lightning that needed some work, but was complete, for a 4 speed Muncie & $150.00 cash. The Muncie turned out to be junk, and needed to be gone through. I didn't even get a shifter with the Muncie. I know: DUH!!!!

 

just out of Navy in 63, traded a mint 55 chevy convertible for my/our first new
car.......1963 Corvair Monza , 4 dr, auto,...................wife loved the little rascals..
we will celebrate our 47 wedding anniversary 25 th this month.. so

In 1968 traded in a 1967 427/435hp Corvette coupe on a new Z28 Camaro and had to give $2800 to boot. Though I was only 20, had to have that first Z28 in the area.

 

I traded a really nice pair of cowboy boots for a pretty much rust free 1956 chevy 2 door post in1968 ? Oh wait maybe that was a good trade. It did need a motor though

Traded a 60 Falcon with a 283 drive train (like the current street gassers)for an all apart chevy 427 motor. The Falcon was a nice reliable car,alot more fun than my friends new muscle cars. This was 67 or so,hope I'm smarter than that now.

 

I traded a 69 Camaro for a 92 Vette. Uhg I still hate myself for it. Glad to hear I'm not the only one who made a bad trade.

 

In highschool, my first vehicle was an 85 Toyota minitruck. I loved that thing, but after having it for 2 yrs, things started squeaking on it, and at that time I didn't know how to fix it. Well, it pissed me off enough that I ended up trading this dude for his 84 Honda prelude. In the year that I owned it, it was in the shop at least once a week. It ended up costing my dad about $3000 in repair costs But, then I found someone to buy it for something like $3200, so I didn't lose too much money.

 

I once traded some street signs hanging in my garage to a cop who gave me a ride in a patrol car and some time in a jail cell.

 

Wow, some pretty horrendous trades, now I don't feel so bad ! Here's a series of swaps I did which make me shake my head:

When I was still in college, in the mid 70's, I traded a nice 35 Dodge couple with a 302/C4 and corvair front for a numbers matching '69 427/435 'Vette. The guy had stripped with paint stripper, and didn't get it very clean, the repaint had blistered. It had those HUGE 6" flares on the back, 2" on the front with ET slot alum. wheels, 70's on the front ginourmous 60's on the rear. It was missing the trips, but had an Edlebrock on a highrise and ran like a raped ape.

I sandblasted (with a siphon feed bucket and silca sand in my dads driveway) the car, painted it screaming red, buffed up the tarnished wheels, got some Jordashe jeans and cowboy boots, grew a moustash and was hot stuff !

After a couple of years, I spun a bearing in the 'Vette, and since I was (still ) in college and had a toddler, I did the bottom end, put it back together and sold it to a local guy for what seemed like a fortune, I think 5K.

At the same time, I had a Model A coupe I'd picked up, and he had a nice '65 Malibu SS hardtop with a 283/glide. We traded, straight across, Malibu for the Model A. The A had a 302 with a tunnel ram and 2 4's, which I thought looked really cool, but the frame was tweaked, so I had built a new one from 2x4 tubing. I had gotten it running, but not driveable, but I had scrounged enough parts to "finish" it. It was chopped, in bare metal, and wasn't too bad, aside from the fact the top was brazed eek on, not welded. Niether one of us evidently thought that was a red flag...

The Malibu was a GREAT car, had Crager SS mags, headers, and was fun to drive, which I did as a daily driver for a couple of years. A buddy of mine liked the car, and offered to trade, even up, for a 57 Nomad, western car, somebody had brought here to the midwest and never put antifreeze in. Of course, I had a pretty hardtop that ran, why would I trade that for an old station wagon that needed a motor and a paint job? Sheesh.

I ended up selling the Malibu and using the money to pay off our Sears charge card, and then bought a '69 Firebird coupe and 72 Pontiac T37 two door hardtop from a buddy of mine, for I think, 300 for the pair. I put a 400 from another buddies demolishion derby winner in the F'bird, and we drove the T-37 after I painted it red and put GTO emblems on it.

The ersatz GTO an 8 track on the console, and the first week I had it I drove in to town to the auto parts store, and when I came out, there was a really nice looking red GTO in the parking lot with some guy setting in it with the door open. I remember thinking, "Nice car.... HEY, THAT'S MY CAR!!!, and hollered at the guy, who was trying to jerk the 8 track off the console. He ran off, no damage done.

As it turned out, I'd left the keys in the ignition, the would be thief, if he'd noticed, could have driven off with the whole thing !!

 

I'm working on a trade my 1994 corvette for a 1954 olds 88 2 door what do you guys thank.

 

Back in 1970 I came across a low mileage , 1500 miles, kept in a garage since new 1956 Ford Crown Victoria, Black & White with the same color interior, it was won in a raffle by the Parish priest who was old at the time and didnt (ever) drive or have a license, winning the car gave him the idea that maybe he should get a license so he tried (and failed) and in the process wrinkled both front fenders just above the wheels, so there it sat untill my brother was assigned that parish and his first assigned duty by the old monsignor was to clean out the garage, Crown Vic especially, what a windfall for me , untill I mentioned it to a friend who said he'd swap me even up, no taboot, a hot rod motor for my drag racing 1969 383 Roadrunner, I did the swap and had lots of fun drag racing that Roadrunner for the next coupla years, but that Ford sure did look sweet when he fixed the fenders. I suppose it didnt turn out to be that bad of a swap ? Peace,,,Moosie

I traded a 1964 Mercury Comet (2-door, 260, good, running shape) for a VW Rabbit diesel pickup with a stuck motor. I'm pretty sure most of the Bad Car Karma I've received over the years has been a result of that asinine transaction.

 

My friends husband made the worst trade EVER! he had a '41 Plymouth and needed a new motor so he decided to trade his running, driving, complete and as ugly as they are, '58 edsel to some kid who was taking his USED motor out of his plymouth. this motor was old and grungy and who new when the last time he did anything to it. but noooo, my friends hubby needed that motor and needed it now. so he traded right across for that nasty motor. he could have low balled that edsel for like $2500 and had enough money to buy a motor and still have change left over. the kid also gave him some BS story about how his girlfriend loves it and they're going to keep it.....ya da ya da ya da. but the day before the trade was even completed, the kid put the car on craigslist for $4500. i called my friend's hubby to tell him. but he didn't care that this guy was taking advantage of him and humouring him. and when it came time to do the exchange the kid didn't want to give him a bunch af parts cause "they were new, he just bought them". Dude you just got a driving car for that motor!!! give the guy the clutch and fuel pump..etc!!! so now he's laughed at for making one of the worst trades in history. a running driving car for a nasty, grungy straight 6 (missing half the parts).

 

A rough but steel chopped 32 5 window for a Fiberglass Roadster body I was young and wanted a 32 roadster in a real bad way.

 

I don't have one, yet, but I'll tell one on my Dad. His first car was a '62 Belair Bubbletop with a 283. Traded that for a '68 Camaro. Then the big one. Traded the Camaro for a Vega GT that rusted out in about three years.

 

Back around 68 or 69 my brother had a 57 chevy Bell Air 2 door post.Aqua and white 327 with a powerglide.Great interior clean as a pin.Anyway the motor started using a little oil and he swapped it for a damn 450 Honda.I never let him forget it either.

 

35 years ago I saw an ad in the paper for a Maserati ..I was the first one there,and gave the guy the $800 that he was asking..told him I`d be back with a trailer in an hour or 2. When I returned there was someone waiting for me..he had $3K in cash..I took it and was happy that I turned a tidy little profit. The car was a coupe painted yellow and had Shell Oil written on the side.... somebody shoot me, please!

 

I traded a 68 schwinn 2 speed kickback stingray for shucks brand 10 speed that fell apart in 3 weeks i was 12 at the time i have never really traded after that

AHH CRAP! I had a pretty cool 53 Ford P/U and was offered a Triumph Stag for it. I called a friend who might know something about this Stag, as I never heard of it. My friend's all excited, tellin me how rare it was, and that he'd trade me a 70 Vette that was worth triple the value of my 53. So, stupid me, I trade. I drive over to trade my friend for the Vette, and he tells me his girl took it shopping. Well, after waiting an eternity for her to arrive, she calls instead......to tell us she lost control and hit a tree.....HARD enought to total the Vette. She was fine, me NOT.

 

I traded a Bicycle for a 49 Ford Woodie that needs a lot of work!
