Picked this up at a Garage Sale today for $10. Looks like a truck to me. Of course I have absolutely no use for it, but it said 4spd on it. I like 4spds so that little voice in my head said "BUY IT DUMMY" and once again, my wallet hand listened. What the heck is it from??

I'm fairly confident that's from a '68 Buick GS. It was a short console for a bench seat car. I've only ever seen one other one. They may have been used in a couple other years of GS but do some searches on eBay and the internet in general and match up the Buick ones to yours to see if they're the same.

Some Buick guy will be your Best Friend Forever if you sell it and you'll make a tidy profit to spend on hot rod stuff.

  6. Looks Mopar to me, too. But if you squint one eye and rare back a little, it looks like my bathroom scales.

just the top plate, but the tach is included in the auction. I would try to email the winner and see if he needs the other parts that you have. for a restoration the only thing good is the tach, the extra holes make it useless...

LOL, this one is on it's way there too! Funny thing is that the guy and I both didn't know what the heck it was and I had bought some other stuff from him so he offered to give it to me for free. I had to MAKE him take the $10!

  17. Throw it on Ebay for the muscle car crowd and spend the money on something traditional.....or cold beer!

It turns out it is a pretty rare Buick GS short console that you got when your ordered a bench seat and a 4spd and a console. I cleaned it up and threw it on e-bay! I might be able to get my set of tires out of this!! Here is what it looks like now.

    Why should he do that?

There's people in this world that would just put it back on the shelf for 5 years and then throw it away. And there's other people that wouldn't dream of taking it back, they SOLD it, and that means something.

Buying and selling is an ebb and flow, you win some, lose some. As long as you're not being deceitful, it's perfectly fine to make money along the way. It's not like he offered to haul off an exhaust shop widow's "pile of mufflers" and made 10K on catalytic converters at the scrapyard. The seller just included something both parties knew nothing about.

Knowledge is profit in the parts biz, and the original seller could've sought that knowledge out himself. But he didn't, he rolled the dice it wasn't worth his time to find out, and lost the gamble.

    Oops!

ya, smiley woulda made the difference :) Sore subject, I've been expanding my wheelings & dealings lately and have gotten a few real world lectures without smileys. It's been a real lesson about how some people inherently link profit to dishonesty.

It's up to 222.50 so far with a few days to go. :)

Another interesting point about said console, it was on a trash heap of old tires, beer cans, and general trash at the corner of a barn and wasn't even a part of the garage sale. I asked about it from the trash pile. That's when he fished it out and offered it to me.

Maybe for a little KARMA, you should drop by with a $20 or a 12 pack and say thanks, and that you sold it to a buddy for a buch less than what you actually sell it for on Ebay. He doesn't need the WHOLE story...

    James,
What makes that console rare is that it was the "base model". If you ordered a tach, you automatically got that console... But most buyers who opted for the tach went ahead and got the bucket seats and paid a few extra clams for the deluxe full lenght console. Keep in mind that Buick was an upscale brand, so a "no options" bare bones Buick is actually a rare find!

Case in point, 1970 Buick GS with 3 speed, total production: 123... 106 "350" cars, 17 "455" cars, and only one 455 convertible... Yep, that's right, a one of a kind car with the base model tranny! LOL

Check out this chart to see exactly how rare the 3 speed was in '68

Kinda funny to think of muscle cars NOT being ordered as "strippers"... But then again, it is Buick were talking about here. :)
