Cool! I had planned on ordering a U-Fab Hemi intake for my 331 soon from Matt. That guy's stuff is pretty bad ***. I am finally starting to begin my coupe now that I have a good chunk of parts in place. What about rolling the leather interior over the top on just the sides and back eventually. I like the way that looks. I think that there arean endless amount of options for you interior once you choose the seats.
cool, btw ill be in NC Saturday till Saturday. going to Boone we got a free cabin to stay at for the week. im digging that leather over the top. thats still a ways away but i am feeling it. thanks again!
my friend just advised me that the ribbed front tires dont do so well at high speeds. think the Firestones may be the better choice.
I noticed that there are no front brakes,, if you run wires you need to put drums on the front to support the wheel. Same on the rear,, side load of the wheel can break the center out. Just thought you should know.
ozzie im in Hialeah near the airport. thanks for that advice babyearl! plans are to run front brakes so i guess now is as good a time as any to source them... need to know: where can i get complete front brakes from? id like all working components, that doesn't mean it has to be new but it wouldn't hurt. the front axle is off a 40 Ford. thanks.
Hialeah near the airport!!. which airport? Opa Locka!? why haven't we met? I'm in Miami Lakes. I figured those palm tree's in the background of your pics were close by. But I was figuring near SW 8 street by La Carreta. OK, On my way to U-Pick in Medley for some parts. Ozzie 305-216-8395.
I am running those Ribbed Dirt track tires on my coupe anyways. I have never driven them on the road but I am willing to sacrifice for the look.
near MIA. jeff thing is i plan on some real long distance drives in this thing. so i already got plenty else to "worry" about. figure firestones will look as good and drive better. its not set in stone yet cause i havent placed my order. unmounted the tires from the 16s today. they are a bit rough inside but i am optimistic that it will work. i degreased them and wire brushed the major stuff. ready for blasting when i get back in 1 week. ps. i still need help locating complete front brakes. i know brakes are not something to cheap out on, but to stay in budget i will need the least expensive route, no Buick finned drums for now, just good working drum brakes.
I think that Buick Finned drums would kill what your going for anyways. They stick out like a sore thumb on something like your roadster. I wish I could help you but I am having problems finding them myself for my Wide Five setup. I should be going out this weekend snooping around I will PM you if I find anything.
well i got my lakester headers, sprayed them with some header black paint for now. they look great and sound even better. ill be baffling them next week or so, not cause of the noise just cause i dont want to damage the valves. i also got tires! this weekend i should be blasting my spokes to then get them powder coated. oh, i went with the Firestones 5.50-16 front and 7.00-18 rears. i cant wait! Matt did a steller job on these visit him at www.lakeheaders.com more soon.
well i got some parts... so if the rain lets off i should be mock fitting the front brakes i got from Eric at Riley Automotive. also replaced my 2 rear tires from Coker. i had ordered 700-18 but when the powder coater informed me that the wheels were not worthy of gloss black powder coating i called up Jimmy at Rally America and now there are 4 16 original Ford spoke wheels on there way to me. soon as i get them they are going to the powder coater. also got the chrome "V8" center caps for the wheels from Jimmy. so thats well on its way... on another note, i am almost ready to purchase a 3x2 set-up to replace the 2x4. this should help my mpg. hopefully ill get the money i need to purchase that very soon. now i am trying to figure out if i $hould powder coat or paint the backing plates and Lincoln drums? gloss black is what i want. i am capable of painting them or having my friend spray them base coat clear coat. not sure. any recommendations?
I used to like powder-coating (it was free where I used to work! ), but have to say that since I have had to a) pay for it and b) rely on someone else's quality, I have gone off it. It is great when done properly, and with a nice phophate pretreatment rust from stone chips shouldn't spread underneath... I don't think I would risk doing the drums anyway, just in case there is any movement during the baking. If you have a friend with paint facilities I think I'd go for single stage black gloss: pretty durable, and relatively easy to touch up. Also a lot easier to strip if you want to change colour. Can you give me a part number for the wheel cylinders for the Lincolns, as I have some original ones that need new cylinders, please? And if there is a number on the shoes as well that would be a great help. The Roadster is coming along nicely - I remember the original post when you first got it. Cheers, Andy
Paint the wheels a copper or bronze, put some old hub caps & beauty rings on it. It'll look a million times better. The cream and white walls just aint working for me. trust me, you'll be glad you did. Great looking ride with a lot of potential.
I Wouldn't do Base Coat Clear Coat on the backing plates or anything for that matter (besides maybe the body). The powder coating maybe a good option if you want durability. I went to HOTDAMN's shop this weekend and he painted his '54's frame with single stage black and it looks awesome. We had the discussion about Base Coat Clear Coat and how he prefers single stage or Lacquer on period cars because there is a character that comes from the paint that is lost in BASE/CLEAR. I was skeptical but when I seen his frame I was sold hand down. It looks like it was dipped in the thickest back crude oil available. I mean it was beautiful and held the character of an surviving car built in the 40's. So if it were me I would save some of the scratch and paint all the suspension parts on your roadster with single stage and powder coating only the parts that are necessary. I think that you will be happy with the results. Also as a suggestion, I think that those Headers look awesome but maybe should have a semi gloss coat on them so they will not stick out from your suspension pieces. The flat black makes them look sort of like velvet in the pics. I can't wait to see more pics of this car as it comes together. Did you ever go buy "THE BIRTH OF HOT RODDING" book? I use that book as inspiration for anything I am into. There are so many cool ideas in there.
I think that the wheels are going to be rad. I would run full salt disks sometimes if you feel like it like the ones that Kevin Lee on here makes. Once those white wall get a but of use on them and aren't pearly white they will look great!
thanks for the tips on the powder coating. guess now its an easier decision for me. wheel cylinder part no. on the actual cylinders: Made in USA 7534 on the box (if its the box for them?) 10-52234-010 & on the bottom 7537 shoe no. 6610708212 & 6610708213 WE-179-FE hope that helps you out. guess i wasnt clear look back a page or 2, i am going blackwall Firestones with gloss black Ford Spoke wheels. thanks for your advice any ways. thanks for the advice! i know what you mean about the base / clear coat it looses some of that character. i simply sprayed the headers till i finish welding in a few things on it. i agree that a semi-gloss will look best. not sure just yet. i did get the book, its great! thanks!
sorry Jeffrey no white walls here. went black wall Champions. figured i already have a mild custom with white walls, this is a hot rod, less flash.
I thought you did but the post above mine stated that your white walls were going to mess with the firewall color. I love black walls, that it what I am running on my coupe so no need to apologize brother. Blackwalls mean all business.
your welcome and good luck. yeah, the firewall will change soon as the body is "better". think ill go gloss black on the firewall and dash. i know the colors i want, just not 100% on whats going what. option 1: the frame gloss brandy to match the future body paint of almost glossy brandy with gloss black suspension components and a black motor, in which case the firewall and will be gloss brandy. option 2: the frame gloss black, body brandy, firewall gloss black, motor brandy, suspension components gloss black. or something like that. some times i like one sometimes i like the other, and sometimes its a mix. still up in the air are the headlight buckets and rad shell. oh well, there is time for all that stuff. im focused on finishing the ch***is stuff (coinciding color wise to the future plans) and i need to do something about that radiator asap, its way too tall. ill snap some pics and post later tonight for discussion. thanks yall!
alright, got the front brakes mocked up. all i need now is different studs in my hubs. no biggy. press out the originals, ream, and press in the new ones. then all should be well. ill be getting the paint tomorrow and painting them soon. i do need new king pins, they have a lot of slop in them. could be the cause of some vibrations i feel at higher speeds. well, got some shots of the rad, not great pics but hope yall can help me lower that thing a few inches, maybe 4 or so. it sits right above the cross member with only 1/2" or so to lower it. the grill shell is pressed onto it at the top tank. all i can figure is have a rad shop remove some hight from it or hope someone has a good idea on this... man that thing is high! it bugs the hell out of me in profile thanks yall.
