i had a 38 chevy truck a while back that i was building. i went dumb for a minute and sold it. decided to buy another. i got this 36 chevy truck for $225. isn`t it bitchin? i wanna throw it on a frame and run a little flatbed.[IMG]

  2. Besides the surface rust it looks pretty straight and solid. For cheap and easy get an S-10 frame.

An S-10 frame will be the easiest. What kind of engine are you gonna run in it?

Hard to go wrong at that price, looks like a great start.

  8. I dig those trucks - that one looks to be in great shape too.

Our neighbor had one when I was growing up just setting in the weeds along side his house. I hounded him starting @ about 12 years old to sell it to me - he never would. One day about 3 years later I noticed that his kids had used it's roof as a trampoline. A few days later it went to the scrap yard. I was really upset even back then.

don't use an S10 frame. it is a pain swap. the wheels are set way forward compared to the s10 and you will pay for this if you do the swap. I've done it. there is a project page with my 36 on it in the Scroungers CC forum if you want to check it out. the steering box hits the front fender and is in the way . I had to take off all the front steering and go with a Mustang II rack to make it work. notched the frame to get the steering shaft through it and more. I know most do what they want to do but an S10 frame is not the answer for this one. just trying to save you from a headache.

here a pic of the S10 frame with the rack and pinion mount welded to the front plus the notch I had to make. it can be done but I've done a couple S10 swaps and they are not that easy. I will never do another one.

Cool, I am kind of partial to this one. Ha Ha Ha

I used a dropped Tube axle from speedway and a little cuttin' here and there. I think using an s-10 chassis would be a lot harder to use than what I did. Besides, you won't be able to get it "stupid low" that way. ha ha ha

get yourself one of those cheap "ring rollers" from e-bay. It will make it a snap to replace all the wood with steel.

I wouldn't go with the S-10 frame either.

Frame has too many curves and hiccups to fit, like others said-wheels way too far back.

Will work decent under late 40's and 50's trucks, but just not for the early stuff.

They are nice little trucks but unlike your 38 this model came with quite a bit of wood to the body.
Lots of little parts for you to collect also but substitutions can be made. Good luck with
however you go on it. I like plowboys version also. I saw one very similar to it at a Houston cruise
nite last Sat with a HAMB tag.

    Heres mine.

Nice find. I had a late 36 Chevy (lower roof) that I built. I put it on a mazda B2000 truck frame. I used everthing I could from the mazda truck including steering column, fuel tank, wiring guages, seats, master cylinder etc. I just moved the motor and trans back where motor met firewall then shorten the driveshaft. The nice thing about the mazda 6 lug wheels is that the chevy blazer older ralley wheels will fit and push the front wheels out a little. With this set up I ran full fenders, full hood. This set ran good on the highway and got 30 mpg. Foolishly I too sold mine. Regrets ever since.
