So as I was ordering a couple of the new br*** Alliance tags I had a weird thought. In fifty or more years my current vehicle could be someone else's "barnfind".

Will the new owner wonder about the Alliance Timing Tag on the firewall, the HAMB decal on the vent window, or maybe that HAMB keychain under the seat...

Will some company be re-popping my Salt Cured HAMB Tour '07 sticker or the HAMB 4 Speed decal? Will people be scrounging the swap meet for it?

Will these be sought after like Lions Dragstrip or Winternationals items are now.

Someday will original HAMB schwag be essential for a "correct" build of a 2008 period build on what we call a traditional rod / custom.

    Interesting thought I think.

Maybe it is just time for me to sign off for the night... :D

You might try what I've done in the past on some of my old rides. I put a sheet of paper sealed in plastic with all the history of the car, some pictures, decals and other items to be found someday hidden in the car. Sorta works like time in a bottle, it would be cool to find **** an item.

If you think about it, a barn find is sort of sad..........someone didn't give a **** about a car for years and years and let it almost get ruined. They should of sold it when it was nice and let someone else enjoy it......What a waste...DUMB! :(

more than a few of us HAMBs are up in years. but to let tour ride go would be too painful. so you park it saying i will take it out once in a while. and just knowing it is waiting for you is enough. when you are gone your loved ones can not part with it because of the memories so it sits " IN THE BARN' ????????????

  10. My bet is the grandson of the guy re-popping the SCTA timing tags will be doing the same with HAMB tags, unless Ryans grandkids are still running this site.

yeah.. they should have sold it when it was not worth anything so the next owner could wreck it, part it out, blow it up and leave it outside to rot or any of the other things that happen to cars over the years.

i'll take a car that has been in a barn for 50 years over one that as been outside for the same amount of time any day.

In 50 years there will be no oil or barns !!! It's a sad future the way everything is going so green these days... our cars will all be outlawed the way EPA and CARB is.. our cars will be lost in history or private collections to multi millionaires who will buy them from Barrett-Jackson !!!

You make a good point there. In addition to that some people are already calling these channeled and fenderless 1950 GMC trucks "Old School" or "Traditional", i wonder what will be considered an "Old School" item 50 years from now ?

I'd take a car that's been USED and DRIVEN for 50 years over any 50 year old barnfind......
There is absolutely NOTHING worse for a car than just leaving it sit, whether it's in a barn, garage, etc.....**** rots, seals dry up, critters live.

uh... leaving it sit in a barn/garage is worse than outside?

just about any car that is 50 years old has done some long term sitting at one time or another.

Yes, Enjoy our hotrods and cl***ics now. They will not be usable in 50 years. Sad times for us. But for those who have never had the opportunity to have a hobby like this.. it'll be the same as we think of the old trades that have gone from existence such as Blacksmiths, chaisemakers, cordwainers, gl***wrights, and joiners.
Our great grandchildren will see those tucked away hotrods as toys of a bygone era.

I imagine they will be sought after. Though it's hard to tell, it doesn't look like the HAMB will be shutting down anytime soon.

In 50 years, someone will reproducing billet for the "early 2000, turn of the century" cars. That is, if cars are still around then.

Haha Larry......that's exactly what I thought when I saw the ***le of this thread. Seeing how the car shows still seem dominated by billet street rod EFI low profile radial tire cars......whew that's a long description.

  23. "Traditional Rods" in 50 years will be anything with a gasoline engine and a steel body.

  24. I had my artist Jim Malaro do this for my old rag back in 1990, a little pre-mature I know but, the day may still come. Please forgive the Street Rodding term, LOL.
He took exactly what I discribed and put it on paper. Fantastic artist.

    Cool pic.....
FWIW...the term "Street Rod" has been used since the late 50's....:D

  26. Yes, I know but it's a funny thing about labels. :D They seem to make people act strangely at times.

I never thought I'd see PC in the field of Rodding.

Maybe in 50 years "Meepsorp' will ask "Televonknek" what these ancient conveyances were?
    "*****in,Meepsorp,they were *****in!"

Sorry, but THESE will be traditional in 50 years! I mean, how many 1908 cars do you really see running around on the roads today? Ill bet youll still see old cars at parades and museums etc, but probably not on the road.

Felsen wrote a book called "Street Rod" I think around the same time as writing "Hot Rod" which was 1950.

Any hot rod with a license on it is also a street rod.

  30. Yes, I read all of Felsen's books when I was a kid. OK, so I was being a little bit too cautious, use me as a recap. LOL
