Congrats to Ryan and the boys for a stellar first effort.
This event is the new benchmark for all things traditional.

Met up with the guys from the Vultures at Diggers Rest to cruise up.

is it worth coming up tomorrow for the day?
the flyer i have says it's a Saturday/Sunday deal but in reality if i drive up from Melbourne tomorrow morning with the old man will we just see people leaving or will we have a whole days worth of rods to look at ahead of us?

    cheers, nick

    well done sean,

I typed this out and then saw your post, so will add it in anyway. and the photos. great day. good to catch up with you.

I attended to first ever CHOPPED show today. Its in the spirit of billet proof. Which for Australia is a big call, as our numbers of cars are small, but if you limit the types of cars that can enter, then it becomes miniscule.

Kudos to the boys as given the criteria and location and lack of advertising, it was the coolest even I have been to for a long time. Peddro and I had discussed the need for such an event in Australia, but lack of time prohibited us from doing more than talking. Hats off to Ryan and the guys for pulling this one off. I think there was about 150 cars attended, and if that is anything to go by, next year will be bigger and better. I have known Ryan and his brother for along time, as his father and my father went to primary school together and grew up from there, I grew up with hot rodding antidotes that featured heavily on the antics of Eddie Ford. So they come from a strong family history of traditional rodding. With Eddie their father being the publisher of one of Australias original Hot Rod mags. so to see these guys come out with 'CHOPPED' mag and back it up with this show is great.

There was alot of the usual suspects there and some who weren't ( rat bastad- what was the rain about to happen?? where were you??) it was held in Newstead, and for those who had problems finding Newstead, be thankful they didn't hold it in South Muckleford ( home of chopped)

The day started earlish, Psycho billy boi , Peddro and I set out about 7 am. I had been having trouble with my new motor, so the last week was spent putting an old one back in, so the car hadn't moved under its own weight with this motor in it for a long time. so as I rolled out of the shed , I was wondering what the day was going to hold. it was 6.45 am. psycho and I met up with PEDDRO at the gas station and we filled up, PEDDRO had my ute to move his mag empire around in (ranchero) and we headed off, a couple of stops along the way in Castlemaine for food and a stop to check the roadster was doing fine saw us in Newstead about 9 am.

The weather leaving Melbourne didn't hold promise for a good day, and the report didnt make out that it would be the pearler of a day it was. There were some great cars turned up, and from interstate too, big well done to the SA boys, big effort! and to Griff for the trip down from Sydey. I think all these guys would have to have been happy with having made the effort. I know that I would have been, great times great food.

BULLBOARS!!! these are local delicacy as it says pig and beef in a sausage, I grew up on these being a local, and man, was it good to get one again. If you missed out, try again next year. If in doubt on their worth, ask LOWSQUIRE, he's initiated on the bullboar. well here are the photos.

    peddro setting up.

1-2-3 count em, all from Castlemaine, a town of about 8,000 people. 3 ARDUNS, from one small country town!! funny thing is , there are 4 in the town! don't know how that works with the supposed 250 original sets made ( 3 of these are original sets that I know of) any other town boast one set of ARDUN heads per 2000 people?

The guy who didn't bring his ARDUN powered 34 coupe, had to settle for his 34 roaster, no slouch in the power plant its self!!

his brother in laws beautiful 32 roadster, heaps of body work, as this was a channelled car with a filled cowl vent. Has run on the Aussie salt too.

    griffs EJ,

great to see that you made the journey Griff, hope it was worth it, last time I saw him , his girl wasn't feeling too well, hope it all resolved.

the pearl/flake in the scallops is beautiful, and the interior is to die for. I"m not a HOLDEN man, but this car is class.

Thanks for the coverage, I spoke to Michael Ahrens last week about this event and it seems to have worked out very well. Congrats to Ryan and everyone else involved. I will put this on the calendar and try to make an effort. Great photos guys.

Thanks for including the old girl. Makes me feel included.

Had a good day today. Cruised up with a great bunch of guys in great cars, drank some beer, ate a bullboar, weather was gorgeous and Craig Watson threw me the keys to his coupe. That was fun. Polished second gear up a bit for him.. Sorry Craig...it was just a little one.

    Roll on Summer.

Yes I know Rob car is the rip kirby roadster, but no one here would and I know John well steve ( worked for him for about 7 years), and believe it or not the gauge center out of your old roadster is what is in my roadster now, I bought it of your before you move to the states at a footscray swap complete with vdo gauges. I was about 15 then.

It was an OK show, with about 100 cars.....

    BUT;

    This guy

After driving HUNDREDS of miles, and burning $200 just on the day to get there to try to support this inaugural event, was simply TURNED AWAY at the entry, coz his car was "too stock" and thus deemed not 'kool' for this show.

COMPLETELY HUMILIATING for HIM.....and the MATES who pestered him to come to help bolster 'PARTICIPANT NUMBERS'. :(:(:(

Redefining COOL is all well and good, but if your view aint WIDE enuff to include a rare and stunning Australian assembled 58 Plymouth.....then it might just be too NARROW.
