*(First of all I have to apologize for the quality of these pictures, the scanner I have seems to do a pretty bad job sometimes)*

I got a stack of pictures from a old Hot Rod pal "Bad Jess Austin" a while ago, these were all taken in and around the Detroit area between 1949 and 1958 (or so I was told),..... I think you might recognize some of these cars :).

A little background, Jess was a member of the original MHRA "Drag-On's", Jess was involved in hot rodding and oval track racing all his life, He also ran one of the "Go To" junk yards in the area,...... Jess is a fellow member of the MHRA "Road Knights",..... and a all around good guy.

    Enjoy !
This was Jessie's first Jalopy !

This is the Blue Racer, sometime just before or just after Loren McCombs bought it,..

This is the way I found it, after it's successful racing carrier,

The truck with the '32 rad shell with drawer knobs, looks like Kenny Kay's truck from Kitchener, Ontario. It has Ontario plates....

  19. GREAT PICTURES!!!!!
I've seen that first Crosley in magazines before;an early racer.Looks like a couple of Arfons early Green Monsters as well. The 33-34 with the headlights under the fenders could be one of several cars built like that in the Detroit area. Also looks like the Reath Maillard Sidewinder on the trailer.

Thanks again for posting them;I never get tired of looking at old pictures.

I was there when the Green Monster ran and I remember seeing the chopped and channeled 32 around the area when I was a kid.
Seems I remember that Hotrod Lady Cruiser saying her Dad had an Olds with Jimmy Jones skirts. Maybe that is his.
Thanks for the great photos from the Detroit area when I was there as a kid.
