    Hey
    What's up guys?

visit www.sakowskimotors.com to find out more about the shop.

I thought that this might interest someone on here, and maybe it could lead to a good thing for everyone.

CAR SHOWS IN WILMINGTON LAST WEEKEND. The city of Wilmington kind of reminds me of a big Paso Robles on the water. The Maulers Port City Hot Rod Rumble next weekend.

I just moved the family from LA to the beach town of Wilmington, North Carolina.
    I love it here.
Affordable housing, I bought a great 1920's 6300sq foot shop, fun surf (check out the tour on the website www.sakowskimotors.com), nice people, lots of cars.
Last weekend weekend there were 2 car shows, one in historic downtown, one by the battleship. Next weekend is the Port City Maulers Show downtown. Also, there are tons of cars in Charlotte.

Maxton land speed course is only 1.5 hours away, to get ready for Bonneville Speedweek 2009.

Wrightsville Beach is 15 minutes from the shop for lunchtime surf.

I could have moved anywhere in the USA, but narrowed it down to this town.
It kind of reminds me of a Southern CA beach town from the 1950's. I think it has much more in common with an old CA beach town then modern day 2008 LA does. Or maybe this is just what I am looking for at this point of my life.

I am keeping a small shop in LA still, for shows, bringing in big projects, and buying and selling cars. Half of what we do is cars in the shop, the other half is buying and selling classics, hot rods, and customs.

We also do some picture car work, and plan to be doing some work with Screen Gems Studios, the largest movie studio outside of California. We are right down the street from them.

    What I am looking for:

1- someone to take pics of cars and list them on Egay, etc as well as other places, help get the cars ready to sell, details them, find cars etc etc

2- a mechanic, a fabricator, with some experience at shops or their own cars, looking to go to the next level

3- a top notch professional (20 years experience in a reputable professional shop) looking for a new opportunity in an affordable beach town.
    Mechanic or fabricator.

I prefer nice people with manners and class. When did having no class become so cool? No drugs at all,or alcohol problems, unless you are addicted to running blown alcohol FEDs. Since I am not cool, I prefer just nice decent people, with a positive attitude. Think 1950's Americana, that is how my shop is.
This is a family style shop, with my family regularly here.

I am looking for people who are outstanding people, not just at the shop, but outside of the shop, that want to be a part of the dream we are living. This is not just a hobby for me, but a lifestyle, and a dream. If you are looking for a regular "job", this probably isn't the place. You have to "get it".

I am looking to meet some nice people, get to know them, and maybe it will be a good fit for now, or the future.

    Thanks for your interest.
    Take Care.
    Wil Sakowski

    ADDED INFO BELOW:
    Hey Guys

Again, thanks for all the pms and emails etc... I have met and heard from all kinds of super folks on this site.

One thing I wanted to throw out there is this apprentice position:

I am looking for someone like myself say 18 years ago. In love with cars and the hot rod life, no responsibilities, some experience with cars. Whether as a hobby, or just a couple years on the job. Someone who is looking for an adventure, and looking to learn all about the business.

What you would do: help set up the new shop, clean, help us work on cars, detail cars, clean cars and the shop up, send out t shirt orders, fix the roof, clean tools, be a shop or office helper, or both etc etc etc..... Run errands. Take pictures of cars we are selling etc and put them on Egay and other places. Help us move cars around for movie car jobs we do. Basically you are the guy in the shop that gets all the little things done.

What you get out of it: Experience, an opportunity to prove yourself, an adventure, learn how to surf, live the life for real, not just on myspace. Over time you could become a mechanic or fabricator. Basically it is up to you where you take it over time. Or you could become a pro at being the guy up front in the office. Learn tons.

I would let you stay in a vintage airstream trailer ( we fix them up and sell them ) in the back lot of the shop for free. That way it works for everyone. Since you have no real skills and monetary value to a shop if you are in this catagory ( not trying to be harsh, but this is the truth ) your monetary compensation would be extremely low, but it is an opportunity. It is always a huge financial drain in time to take an apprentice on, but I have had some great experiences in the past, and would love to pass some knowledge on, with the hope it would be mutually beneficial for everyone. I would have walked across America in my sneakers for this opportunity when I was at that point of my life years ago. And that is the honest truth, not an exageration. And, I bet most successful people in this business would have done that also.

This is not a dead end opportunity. The last guy that started as an apprentice took advantage of it. He started working and helping out for free 24 / 7. Within 2 year time period: he was a solid in the office, then he became a solid mechanic, then he became a good welder and fabricator working for the shop at $17.50 an hour. Not bad for only 2 years experience. When me moved the main shop out of LA, he landed a job at one of the best shop in Los Angeles with what he had learned in such a short time. Though there was nothing 9 to 5 about the last 2 years. I am very very proud of him and how far he has come in such a short time. I would love to find someone else to bring along as others have brought me along in the past.
I would choose him over 100's of guys who have applied for a job with 15 years experience, and I guarantee you other shops would also.

Well there is an opportunity for the right person. This life is not for most people for sure, but if you know it is for you:
Then email me at sakowskimotors@gmail.com. Include tons of info and pics all about yourself personally and your work. I will get back in touch between working on cars, so it might take a while.

You must be an outstanding human being, and have a bunch of solid people who will vouch for you.
This is sort of like Wyotech, but real life, and you don't have to pay.

    Take Care
    Wil Sakowski
    www.sakowskimotors.com

p.s. I am still always looking for pros also.

    Sounds good.
Hopefully the waves will like last weekend (the good waves below were last weekend), this weekend was flat! But was nice day with the family on the beach, and so I did some good paddling.
Of course I missed last weekend, we were having a little baby girl. So, no regrets.

    Hey
This is a college town, so there are tons of cheap places to rent.
The college UNCW is here. For you single guys, there are tons of singe UNCW girls all over the place. I think all the "california beach girls are here", the beaches are just too cold in LA for them.
Feel free to give to give me a call.

  20. Welcome to NC, Will!

Born and raised here, I've seen alot of the US and there's nowhere I'd rather live. Not as many "big" car events here, but you can make a ton of smaller ones if you're willing to drive. The best ones are in Charlotte (Auto Fair in April, September, GoodGuys in October) and Myrtle Beach (Run to the Sun (PeeDee SR) in March).

I'll check you out the next time I'm in the area. Doubt it will be this weekend, though it's supposed to be a GLORIOUS weekend. Maybe a bike ride.........................

Wow, cool Will. You actually did do it and looks like a great choice and very cool shop too. Good luck with it all.

I think I got a speeding ticket just outside of Wilmington once back in my college days.

Hey, I'm in the area and need a job(part or full time). Engineering background and handy with computers. PM me.

Its great to see another shop in the area. Isnt there another shop right up the road from you? When will you be up and running? Would like to stop by and check out. I have a 49 Olds 98 that needs some rocker panel work.

I hope to hit the show this weekend. I have not been able to hit as many shows this year as I thought I would.

    Good Luck

Wow...Well, i want to wish you the best of luck finding the help for the new shop..
It does very much sound like a "dream job", to many of us i'm sure.myself included.
And it's unfortunate for me that i'm up here in NY...
I'll have the 20 years under my belt as a mechanic this Dec...about the same amount of year's working on my own stuff (old stuff), and probably been doing work for other's old car's for a little over 10 years, if not a few more.
    No drug or alcohol issues...
Would LOVE to live by the ocean...and build hot rods..THAT part of this "hobby" is my lifestyle as well..not the 'scene'
But, i do have a lot of family here and just couldn't split and leave 'em..
I guess i'm too old fashioned and just don't wanna leave my folks and close friends..damn..that and i aint got the ball's to pack up and boogie like that :D

So, now that i just typed all that for nothin'...ok, just so i could vent i guess :)..
Again, i wish you all the best with your new shop and in getting the help you need there!!
Looks like someone will have a great opportunity.

And look me up if you ever want to build hotrod's up here in COLD, SNOWY GLOOMY NY :D:D

Best of luck to you at the new shop. I met you last year at your shop. I came and bought some vw stuff off you and you were a very cool guy. Harder and harder to find down home people. You will go far with your great attitude. Thanks Danny Deacon
