i would assume it would go into the oilpan somewhere.. i have a truck one set up like this under the bench.. i see no reason to run one of those filters unless it is for bragging rights.. i dont brag much..

Usually the oil return is a fitting under the dip stick tube casting. Some had them & some didn't.

I know the later blocks have a return port in the block, just above the pan rail on the dipstick side. Is the filter still set up as a partial flow?

early truck pan has the fitting on the dipstick boss and 59-a car pans have it at the front left side of the pan

'49-53 types have the return fitting at bottom edge of block on left.
About 1940-48, return was on pan...first couple of years towards front of pan, last few port was part on dipstick attachment casting.
Kits for earlier cars with no fitting on pan used a hollow bolt either at fuel pump mounting or on front cover for return. Return volume is low, so simply drill out a bot end to end, maybe 1/8 or so, and figure out a way to attach a fitting. A Speedwat 3/8 brake banjo on an intake bolt drilled out would be an alternative.
To facilitate getting a hole through a bolt, use a drill press...drill a hole in a block that will firmly hold bolt, swith to a smaller drill without movung anything, drill the bolt.
