The weather was iffy in the morning, O.K. it rained like hell for a while, but everyone still showed up and we did get the racing in. We had nearly twice the people we had last year and it was so cool to see the stands full of people watching the racing. If you have any ideas what you'd like to see next year, let me know!
Thanks to Zombie & crew at Rod & Kulture for the support. Spike the photo guy, The East Coast Gasser guys, and Boss Hydro crew, Bob, Bill and crew at Beaver Springs for making things so easy for me to make the show happen, the Showdown regulars for helping and everyone that shows up with the right stuff (rain or shine) to make our little shows special for me.
I'll do a HAMB auction of show junk after I get home from Hershey. Much thanks to Ryan. Without this place many of our shows (collective show do-er guys) across the country would not work as good as they do!
Anybody that promotes a show here should do an auction to support this place. It is the best money you never spent!!!

Larry I had a great time!!!!!...very nice show.....you could not have found a more better place to have that event...The owner and Track announcer have more enthusiasm than all of us put together..My highlight was the flag start race with the Rebel Reaper..I will let Don tell you who won..I need to find a great pic of that!!!!.......if anyone has one?....I met alot of great people and enjoyed talking each and everyone of you!.......The rubber band fight was fun...ya its good to act like a kid every once in awhile.........I know I raced in the wrong class, its what the tech guy put me in....then I changed it to the x class, but after finding out we could only run 1/8 mile in either class I switched back to what they wanted me in from the start....I took myself out after a while...I was not their to win...but to line up against cool HotRods which is not common when I go racing on a Wensday night....Again I had a Blast and look forward to next year..Way to go Larry......Littleman

Larry...The shirt is awsome...Mr. Norwell did a killer job.......I was speachless when I saw the art work...Thanks

This was without a doubt the coolest event that we had the good fortune of attending. It was great to meet so many people from the board. I look forward to next year.

I have worked at the Beaver for 17 years "speakin' the spoken' word" and have obviously been part of a number of shows, but honestly, this is without a doubt my favorite event that we host. Even though it is at the tail end of the year and I am worn out by that time, I get so pumped up waiting on Showdown Drags arrival and thrive on the kiiller hot rods that invade the Beaver on Saturday that fires me up.

There are so many great folks and great racers that come through the gate that are fabulous to work with which is essential when trying to coordinate a well choreographed "show" for the fans in the stands to watch. Beaver Bob and I would like to take our hats off to Larry, his wife Kim, Larry's crew, Rocky & his crew, the super cool East Coast Gassers for their wheel standing antics, the front engine diggers, and the BSD line crew who worked so hard to dry the track and prep it in a timeley manor in the face of an incredibly diappointing wet morning, but the soul of the event shined brighter than sun in those morning hours and attendees banded together to get the track dry so the high winding, high MPH,low ET racers could fly down the track by mid afternoon. So a special thank you to those hot rodders who helped dry the track.

As a final Showdown wrap up news report, I wanted to announce that my good buddy Dayton, "the Widow Maker" was declared the winner of the Showdown Flashbike Drags due to his winning streak of 8 wins and only a single loss. This youngster found his Dad's stingray style bike in the basement and the two set out customize the bike just to compete in the 2nd annual Flashbike Drags. The bike featured a custon paint job and was adorned with metal cob webbing between the frame bars similiar to the OCC Black Widow Bike. It had a white frame, with maroon metalic handle bars and sissy bar. It even ran a red line "cheater slick" on the back. Dayton was crewed to his winning ways by his father! Congratulations to this father and son team on this years winning record and custom bike.

Hope to see you all back at the Beaver next year!

    from nowhere...

Larry, Bill, Bob, we will never, EVER miss this event...Thanks again, so much for having us, now two years in a row.
Its always great to hang with you guys, meet new folks, and camp at the Beaver, one of the most beautiful settings you could have for a weekend at the drags.

I regret that I had a pinhole in the radiator, preventing me from running more than a couple grudge runs, but...thats why theres a next year!

I'm looking forward to it, already...this is the most fun we have all year!
And you guys do a hell of a job, and even tolerate us "infectious" types!
    haha...

Those that I had the pleasure of talking with, hanging out with: thanks again!
And I hope to meet more of you, and line up against you, next year, and in coming years!

    The Showdown: Its the BEST!
more than a show, more than a race...its a happening....

Thank You for a great show, This show can only get bigger and better since everyone has a great time. I already told plenty of people about it and this show might be a reason on why I buy a camper just so I can make a weekend out of it.....

Dave, Thank you and the rest of your club...hell EVERYONE that drives a long way to get to either of my shows. I'm glad that everyone has enough fun once they get there to drive as far as they do. Sorry about the 1/8 mile thing. The track was just not dry enough to do the quarter...next year! Norwell's O.K. :) actually I told him what I wanted and said I didnt even have to see a rough sketch. I know he would do exactly what I wanted and he did!

Mine to! I got to get a good look at the back of Daves truck......that thing sure does run good. Larry we all had a blast, we sat at dinner thinking of new builds for next years event. Thanks again for hooking me up with the welder it got me home safe and sound, our crew is pretty much on the same page agreeing this is the most fun we have all year out of all the events.

  15. Larry, Bob, and Bill, thanks again for a great time....When are we gonna turn this into a weekend event? I would like to apologize for the performance of the Rebel Reaper this weekend, I have been fighting a distributor gear problem all season, and I thought I had it fixed, but it is done again.....and yes, Littleman did beat me in our grudge match. (He left earlier than me:) We left early sunday mourning for Thompson, Ohio for the Gasser Nationals and Dave set his personal best with I think a 10.88, congrats, and I am sure that truck has some more in it! I will make a better showing next year, for sure....Racing the Lazy 8 was extremely fun for me. I was suprised on how it acted on the track. Couldnt get any traction....first time that car has been on the track since Detroit '59... maybe I should have put the slicks and zoomies back on it! Spike, thank you soooo much for picking the Lazy 8 for your award, it means alot to me. Saturday night the Slick Devils campsite was running low on firewood, cause we didint bring that much figuring that we would just mooch off of the SoWhat crew for the rubberband fight. JR went home saturday and we figured the rubberband fight was off.....well, Steve and Brian went out to get some wood and Steve comes back and says he and Brain were ambushed by Spike, and HotRodJen, and crew! Steve's girl, Kim, brought BIG rubberbands so the rubberband fight elevated to the Rubber Band Rumble. All the Slick Devils invaded.....if was alot of fun! Littleman with his AirBorne tactics....they had a little kamakazie that nailed me right in the ear, I think it still hurts....I know little HotRodJen's butt still has to hurt, but the squeels she made went getting hit were too funny! All and all, other than the kamakazie going down, it was a blast! And when we all were too tired of running around, we shook hands and laughed some more! Jr. you must be getting old.....

Thanks doesn't really cover it. This show is a blast and my family loved it. We looked forward to it(all year) and the rain didn't diminish any of the enthusiasm. The idea of having things for the kids to take part in was great. My daughter is convinced everyone came there just to see her in the footrace! It is just a really great event and I can't think of any that come close.

  17. Man, get your old man's lighting holed sedan out there, bout time he makes it really run. Drop a pic on here for people will ya! I got one somwhere...

Where to begin?! What an awesome time, BIG thanks to Larry, Bob, Bill, Spike, East Coast Gassers, the BS crew, and everyone else who helped make this happen. Thanks to John and Kim for the grub, and the SoWhat crew for their hospitality and a spot by the fire, JR for the 20/20, Jason for the Jungle Juice, Littleman for whooping my ass bigtime which made for a great starting line photo, Don Moyer-great to talk to you and hear the story with your roadster, inspirational! We had to take off Saturday night, my buddy Matt was getting really sick with fever and didn't think he could take another night in the tent so we missed the rubber band fight and the bike drags. By the time I got back to Buffalo I had put just over 600 miles on my ol pickup. Aside from some crap in the carb, she passed with flying colors. Of the 6 passes I made, all were within 1.5 MPH, scary, that ol bucket of bolts is actually sorta consistent! It was a long haul but worth it in every way. Thanks again!

Yes I will be selling shirts after I get finished with Hershey. I'll do a classified post early next week.

  21. Great show, reminds me of Temple in Austin..... DOTD
It's nice to be a local now, only a 3hr drive instead of 23.
First trip in the A with the new Girlfriend and she survived, so it was a great weekend. :)

  22. Been going to the drags since 1958 and that was one of the best days ever. Thanks to all. Suggestions for next year. Let the non-racers cruise the track as we did to dry it. Make a fund rasier of it and charge a buck a lap and give the $$$ to charity. I enjoyed it and the folks on the bleachers got to see the hot rods in motion. Secondly, put Bob Bilbow's dragster on next year's shirt. Thanks again for a great day at the Beaver. See you at the Showdown.
