I was told these were the fronts from a '56 F100, but after looking around here, it looks like the '53-56 F100 brakes have a separate hub, whereas these do not.

The correct bearings to adapt to the 37-41 spindle do not work in these drums either, the races are about 1/8" larger than the original ones from these drums.

I would like to know what they are from so i can possibly send them back!
Any ideas???? And thanks for the help!

  2. they look like `53-`56 F100 to me. i believe that your drum and hub are two separate pieces. they are just rusted together , and possiblly hung up on the wheel studs

what diameter is the ID of the drums?

the inner bearing you need is #14116 , and should work with the existing race in the hub...what are you using?

The drums are 11" id and about 2.75" thick.
The new bearing i have is a 14116 and the corresponding race is 14276.
The OD of the new race is 2.717". The OD of the race that came out of the hub is 2.565".

The 37-41 spindle i have has an OD of 1.565" and the backing plate hole diameter is 1.815".

The OD of the backing plate is 12.125".

Let me know if i missed anything. These are updated pics since i just sandblasted everything. Thanks again!

Just talked with the guy i bought the brakes from and he verified he pulled them from a '56 f100.
Could it be that Ford used different brakes halfway through a model year?

    Any ideas are welcome!

  7. i am 100% sure those backing plates are NOT `56 F100...but i can't tell you what they. my guess now is maybe later Ford. hope someone who does know will see this

The first post of rusty brakes, look to be f100, but the blasted parts look to be 57 and newer.

  10. What he said.
If you take those little washer looking things off the studs the hub will come apart fromt the drum.

The backing plate mounting feature is completly different in your sand blasted pics.

    Thanks guys.
I got a set of '53 F100 brakes and compared them to mine and how different they are. I was figuring they were from '57 and newer.

I don't know what your trying to do here.

But the Crusty brakes in the First picture arent even the same brakes as in the second picture.

Notice the difference in the center hole from the First pick to the second ?

Do you have 2 different backing plates ?

The crusty ones look like '56ish brakes, The Blasted ones look like Later Ford brakes.

Almost appears its a Bait & Switch deal ... I could be wrong though.

The sandblasted brakes are the ones i ended up with. I bought them from Desert Valley Auto, it's a salvage yard out in Arizona. Anyway, the guy said he specifically pulled them from a 56 F100. Well, i ended buying a set from a 53 F100 locally and of course they are completely different than the ones they sent me. After many emails and telephone calls, they won't do anything about it. So i would recommend not buying from them.

Looks like you need to send them pictures of what they sent you & pictures of the '53 brakes you bought.

I wouldnt sit still for that shit ... They burned you if they sent the Blasted ones as '56 Brakes.

I worked for an Old Auto parts store years ago, Owner wouldnt return something he sold wrong & chased the guy out the door.

Next day he came to work and the front glass of the store was busted out, The wrong part he wouldnt return was now "RETURNED" thru the window & laying on the floor in front of the counter.
