I am about to buy a 1950 f150. Who makes steel fender's, front. and rear / also running board's. This truck has fibergl*** fenders now ,they have to go!. This is my wife's dream truck. This would be her anniversary gift, after 32 years married /37 total together Thanks Bob
He meant to say, "No one produces steel fenders, but you can get steel running boards" - I think ............. Your wife will like the truck. I drive a 48 F1 daily. Just brings lots of smiles to tool around in it. If you have questions, ask away!
You can still find the fenders but they are really hard to get and usually need some work. Just keep looking on auction sites and craigs list and you will come up with some ideas on cost, etc.. Running boards are getting very hard to find also for the F1's especially. I have some F3's that could be cut down if I need to but have been looking for the F1's for a while too. Check out the other sites like ford truck too and register there. I don't have the web site info handy but if you need it I can look it up.
Nice oem steel fenders are tough to find. You'll find more F-2 and bigger than F-1 tin. It's out there but be prepared to buy an entire parts truck to get what you want. Even then you'll likely be looking at tons of bodywork. Kansas City craigslist has a few on it right now. BTW My 50 F-1 has gl*** fenders and I'm happy with them. I'm not trying to go down the steel vs fibergl*** road but gl*** is a viable option. Mine came from B+E and were pretty low cost at the time. Most poeple can't even tell they are not steel.
I don't understand what is wrong with fibergl*** fenders, other than elitist outrage. In time, if you run across nice steel fenders, good deal.
http://www.lmctruck.com They have a LOT. So does Mac's. I just bought (in July) a '50 F2 basket case with a completed ch***is and a Merc flatty for like $500 off the KC Craigslist. Of course, I'm a local... You may also check here: http://www.mercurypickup.com/mcmillan.htm That last guy has some awesome stuff. They sold a lot of these trucks, and original parts are still plentiful in my rural area. I bought 2 trucks cheaply, and it gave me enough useable parts to build my 51, but I still had work to do on the fenders. I see more 48-50 parts around than 51-52, so you should be OK, but F1 fenders are huge, and most people won't ship them. Typical rust through areas are under the inner braces at the side and bottom. The repro running boards I saw were expensive and I heard from several people they didn't fit real well, so I cut mine down from F2 boards. I love my F1, with the 114-inch wheelbase it's stable on the road, has good legroom, the bench seat is comfortable, and I can wear my hat in the cab. I'm still hoping to see it in paint one day.
