Just put a new cam, lifters, etc. in my 350 cad motor in my '49, also had the distributor recurved, and put in a new MSD coil...now the problem, I have 13volts coming into the HEI, but NO fire to the plugs. I pulled the dist. and we checked it on a distributor machine and it works great, just not in the car! It truns over fine and so I know I am missing some stupid little thing, so any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Is the rotor in it!?!?!

Kidding... that's kind of a wierd problem though. Sounds like a wire is shorting out, or the coil isn't connected or seated correctly to me.

When you take it from the distributor machine and install it on the car, do you dis***emble it any, or you just plop it into the car? I'm trying to figure out what changes between the distributor machine and your car that causes it not to work.

  4. you say you have voltage at the distributor....i ***ume that was checked with the ignition switch in the on position..but do you have full voltage while the motor is cranking , with the ignition switch in the start position?

Is the dist. engaging when you put it in the motor?

Like punkabilly said make sure nothing is grounding out the coil, remove everything extra from the negative side of the coil ( tach wire, kill switch etc. ) leave just the dist. wire and try it !!!!!
