    Thoughts and suggestions.
I have 1966 318 poly that I have a problem with the oil filter leaking if it is not really cranked on to tighten it.
You actually have to start the engine run it and shut it off to check the filter, because it only leaks after you shut off the motor. four or five times of this and you have put almost another full turn and the filter is super tight. Thought about going to a remote filter bracket. Put the cup on the engine tighten the hell out of it. and mount the remote some place safe.

Is this a canister filter housing, or a screw-on cartridge?

If canister, do you have a fresh gasket on it each time? Is it staying in position as you tighten it up?

If cartridge, do you put a dab of oil around the rubber seal before you screw it on? On both sides?

Double check all your sealing surfaces, after really cleaning them off, to make sure they aren't gouged or pitted.

It's the spin on type. I clean the mating surfaces each time and oil the gasket. i check to make sure that the gasket from the old filter isn't still there.

Two things to look at next time. Take the gasket out of the filter and lay it on the mount to make sure its the right filter. The threads may be bunged up not letting the filter screw on easy, leave the gasket off and screw the filter up and see if it hits the mount without getting stuck on the threads.
Also make sure the fitting did not partially unscrew from the motor, in essence making it too long..

Pull the plate on the block where the filter seats & replace the gasket underneath it.
