Ok here's Part 2 to my "Saving a Coupe dash"!

    PART 1:

    Here's the original dash again:

    Here's where we left off:

Here's where we pickup, obviously the dash isn't finished and it really only now is becoming a blank canvas. Well several months ago I ran across a 68 Dodge pickup out in the salvage, looked it over to see if it had anything that could be used or resold. Found this really nice trim around the rear tail lights. Here's the trim, and a pickup with it on it.

If it's not obvious, it would make a perfect dash insert!!!

So I start by making a cardboard template, and laying it out on the dash with a sharpie. Drill the holes to mount it. (if you come across these don't forget to snag the circular clips on the studs, they come in handy here!)

Trim some holes for gauges and speedo, this is gonna look cool!

    Time for paint!!

Tape off the insert area, going white here!

All put back together, wow looks completely different than the stock dash I started with!!

And for the finally, a little bit of old school stripes to set it off!!

Looks fantastic. I really like the symetrical look and the tail light trim is cool too.

Would there have been room for 5 guages in there, or no?

    thanks squablow!

Nope there was only room for two gauges and a speedo, if I eliminated the speedo maybe so, but I figured speed, oil, and water temp were the most important ones.

Nice work! You could grab a different style look to it by engine turning a thin sheet of aluminum for the gauge backing too.

Chad is quickly becoming one of my heroes! That is a sweet looking dash, and I'm getting excited about getting started doing the dash for my RPU!
