WTF? just called 5 minutes ago and "shredder iron" is $30 a ton and falling! for those of you who aren't in the business (i'm not) that is just about anything under 1/4" that is ferris (magnetic)? you guys in the business correct me if that is wrong. that is a $200 a ton drop from 6 month ago. this is the pricing i remember for october for many years. wonder whats up. they said the price was going down on friday, i will keep this thread updated.

  2. supply and demand..when prices were high every POS car was s****ped , creating a big supply...maybe even too much. now , with this economy , the demand for new steel has to be way down...prices for s**** falls

  4. Hopefully new structural steel for frames will be dropping soon.

Of course the bad part of this part of the natural business cycle is the job displacement.

I was at the steel mill this morning and was told the drop is due to China stopping production for the Olympics, and we are just now feeling the effects.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Being in the business, steel (and all metals) ran up going into the Olympics and the build out of Bejing. Then inventories piled up during the Olympics which the world is just now working through. I don't know how true it is, but they say that we are nearing a bottom in pricing and things should creep back up as long as international credit is still extended.

My aluminum shavings at the shop went from $.45 per pound to $.05 in one week. We used to get $400 a week. This week $22

It ****s. I help my dad with s****. We are cutting up a wrecked van trailer and aluminum went from $.82 a pound a couple months ago to $.43 now. I can see why alot of good cars were s****ped. I have listed cars that were good projects for s**** price and got no replys or if I did they would want 100 pics of every spot of rust. Finally they would be stripped and hauled off. All a person can do is list it at a reasonable price. A lot of people will ***** when you say you are going to s**** something and then you can offer it at s**** price and they won't be interested. I mean what the hell are you supposed to do give it to them. I have heard people say they would rather sell the car to someone for less than s**** so it won't be junked, but more than likely a few parts will be removed and you'll find it at the s****yard.

doesn't the price of steel affect your business? seems it would have direct impact on those "used" parts your buying such as "core" motors,transmissions,rearends... that your rebuilding and putting in the cars you build for your customers. please don't take this as any type of "personal attack" just asking. and as for "tech week" i also welcome it when its here as its usually very good reading.

one other thing I have noticed as I have been a small time s****er fo 12 years. Every year at this time one faiths religous holidays start. So during this time trading comes almost to a stand still. They always go up after the first of the new year. I know we are not alowed to use religous topics so if this breaks the rules please delete.. Thank You... Bobby
