    Hi
I have been trying to remove the fan from my water pump with no luck.
I have tried holding the fan and tapping the shaft with a plastic hammer and penetrating oil. I tried a small gear puller the heated the fan center with an oxy torch with the puller as tight as I could, no luck.
The book I have says just tap the back of the pulley. The shaft is stainless I am not sure its original.
I am temped to try removing the impeller and pulling out the front.
Someone must have a trick for this.
    Thanks
    Brendan

Sorry, but I don't have any successful experiences to share. I've ruined one fan pulley trying to 'persuade' it to separate from the pump shaft. If I had to do it again I think I'd soak it with Kroil and patiently wait for the Kroil to work.

It's a taper, like rear axle. Kroil won't do much there.
Trad quick way is just a nut on end of shaft, whack it with a hammer.
Better or for seriously stuck, you need a long nut, coupling nut I think, and a bolt.
Install nut with clearance to fan, tighten in a bolt so bolt end is against shaft. This puts your hammer force against the end of shaft without wrecking threads, and of course allows a much harder hit without damaging anything than you can do with a nut alone.
Home depot has coupling nuts, but probably not this size...if not, long way is industrial supply like MSC, quick way is buy coupling nut a size small, run a drill through it, and tap same size as shaft.

Horay its off and I didn't break it, I made the jigger as shown on Macs site wacked it with a hammer no luck. I used a set of bearing plates in the pulley and stuck them in my press, load bang and its off.
Thanks for the help guys, expect more questions as there is lots more to be fixed.
