Here it is $3.23 as of last night, dropped six cents in three hours while I was out! Most stations here post both cash and credit prices and i see that they are the same now. We, wife and I, charge all our gas on a card that gives us airline miles, then pay the card off each month, no interest. We have gotten several FREE airline tickets this way; when the price of gas was over four bucks/gal it didn't take too long to "buy" a lot of miles.:)

I worked at an Amoco station a hundred years ago. They used to advertise 4 cents cheaper for cash on Regular, but the credit card companies started raising hell. When I had my tattoo shop in Kansas, the credit card companies made me sign a contract stating that I could show no preference for cash in any way or I'd lose my right to accept certain cards. Kinda BS, but that's becoming the norm now.

Here's whats going on around here..We live on the border of NC & SC Gas in NC 3.89-4.08...gas 6 miles away in SC 3.79 ( less road tax).....IF you can find it !!! For the better part of 3 weeks we've been undergoing a mysterious "shortage " with many, many stations "out of gas", pumps covered ,long waiting lines, limits of $25-50 per purchase..yet ,you get on the Interstate and go 25-30 miles south and gas is plentiful and around $3.00...things are starting to ease up today..but it's still nearly $4.00 and you have to hunt the stations with gas...

  8. Was on tonight's news a Valero on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse was down to first $2.99 then $2.84 a gallon - if you paid in cash. The owner said right on the news if he took credit he'd lose money on it. It's some kind of special deal, good only today, unless they run out first. The way they talked they implied another station was doing the $2.99 price too, but they never showed it or said who.

Fastrac has been doing a cash discount for a while, and so have the Savon stations around Verona and Oneida.

About 10 years ago a small business I worked for changed banks to get a better deal on the credit - and it still cost him 7 cents each time he swiped someone's card (I ***ume thats each time the card got read and the machine talked to the bank's computer to validate it). The fees are nuts. Those of you who sell on eBay and accept Paypal? It's about the same thing, the CC company cut is smaller, but if you have a merchant card account with a bank, they get a cut of it too.

The other thing with card purchases, especially at a gas station, someone can use a stolen card really easy with the pay at the pump deal, people can do a chargeback for a long time after they get the gas, and so on and so forth. Lots more risk involved.

It's interesting that they can go so low with it out of the blue, the price has been dropping anyways, because people are using less. But I expect the rate of inflation to cross the dropping price of oil and gas before it gets too much lower and it will bottom out, probably no lower than just under $3.00 a gallon.

It's $3.35 here. I have never heard of getting a discount for cash, it'd be nice because that's all I use. Don't have a credit card or want one.

Filled up last night, $2.89, would've been 2.99 if credit. I think this is against Cred companies rules of engagement (Awwwww...), and in some areas it is apparently illegal as credit companies have weaseled their rules into the works. I think this is GREAT. Whyinhell should anyone pay the credit card expense if using cash??
Anyway, I think good general advice is to hunt on the po' side of town and away from big highways. It is very clear around here that there is enough slop in actual gas prices for the stations to adjust to their clientele...we live in the gulch between Short Hills, where everyone is a vice president of AT&T or such, and urban squalor. The dotted line is about a hundred yards away and prices change...

The CC co's had a law to protect them, but at some point in time it quietly dissapeared here in NJ. And now the different price is allowed again.

And the "zone" pricing thing is still in effect. Another so******t dream, those can can pay, will.

But the volume is still dropping so the market is cutting prices to try to get the excess capacity of the refineries used up. But if they reduce the refining by closing a plant or two, the prices will go back up.

But still, please stay away from the discount gas. Name brands have a better quality base and additive package.

BTW, that gas tempature map is interesting, you can zoom right into your area.

  12. you can say what you want, I said two years ago that gas prices would drop over a buck a gallon before the election and go back up a buck and a half shortly after. it's the only way that the oil companies have a chance to get McBush in office
I also believe that many gas stations are owned by foreigners that take our cash and ship it to finance terriorists
but this has nothing to do with Hot Rods so I'm not going to say it!! Whoops sorry

    HAVEN'T READ ALL THE POSTS...................BUT
in s/e michigan, marathon stations are giving the 'cash price' to customers using marathon credit cards. swipe your card, the price changes from credit to cash price.
CAN SEEM TRIVIAL, BUT THOSE CENTS ARE BETTER IN MY POCKET, THAN IN THEIRS!

there's ALWAYS someone with a better price...along the avenue!
price spread is anywhere from 5 to 10 cents between cash and credit.
some stations are @ $2.99a gallon.
    ------ [NEVER THOUGHT I'D SAY $3 A GALLON GAS WAS A BARGAIN!]------
    thanx red ryder

LMAO, I think you need to do some reading. I think you have a distorted idea of what so******m is.

So******m refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society.

If this had anything to do with so******m it would all be the same price. We would share in the profits. Hmmmm...

Ahh politics.... That and a f' up market. With everyone seeing a "slowdown" (hell yes I'm a optimist, america rules) and crazy **** in the market it would really be a kick in the nuts if oil companies come back with another record profit.
