61' Chevy Bel Air 2 door post, 6cyl., 3 spd. runs and drives. Looks GREAT! from 20'. The asking price $5000. 100% original. Never wrecked or repainted. For the the car to be perfect I estimate it will need about $3500 in parts for interior and rust repair plus paint. All glass and chrome are in great shape. What would be a fair price for the car? Anyone got 2 cents?
Around here that would be a very fair price if it was pretty solid. You don't say what kind of rust repair it needs.
It needs lower trunk pan, pass. floor under seat- rear foot well and both center floor braces replaced. It has a rust hole in front of both rear wheels on the quarter panels and around the top of the wheel opening at the lip on the driverside, rust holes on both fenders under the head lights, on both sides of the the trunk on the flat panel behind the wheel wells. Rust has also started in all the seams in the trunk but don't seam to be too bad yet. The interior needs headliner, carpet, door panels, and front seat cover. This car is a good solid car. Three owner car has never left the family. Car is from Ky. When I went to look at the car I didn't realize how expensive the interior parts are for these cars.
All of this can be done for 3500, I need to move wher you live . You better check prices again all the rust repair will be close to that, and a so so paint job will be over a grand easy,. I love 61s also but you may do some looking around at repair costs and interior work first. Will have more in it than expected before you know it
sounds expensive to me with that amount of rust. rust ain't cheap to fix correctly. I did a 64 for a lady and my bill was 2600.00 with less rust than what you are describing. car had good floors but the trunk and wheelwells were gone as well as a few other spots. this was without finish bodywork. I do it as a hobby on the side and don't charge much per hour since I basically have no overhead and also don't even charge for every hour put in. this sounds like a car where you take the rust you see and multiply by 1.5 to figure the actual damage that will need repair once a person starts cutting.
When I said $3500 that was just a ruff estimate for parts only. I would have to do all the labor myself to complete the repairs needed.
It seems high priced to me. My buddy sold a 60 Biscayne 2 door post a few years ago for $1200 and with much less rust, running and driving. I have messed with Impalas, Bel Airs, etc. for years and have bought and sold a number and have never got the kind of money you are talking about in the condition it is in. I guess things are just cheaper in the middle west of SE Kansas, SW Missouri. We definitely don't make as much as those on the Coasts. I'd go closer to $3500, maybe. BlackCherry
3500 might cover the rust repair but I doubt it. That's alot of areas that have issues and like any other car, you never really know what it needs until you get in there and start cutting. That having been said, I personally love '61's. Plan on re-doing brakes and other saftey items that you may not have inspected yet. From the little bit that you have described, I'd say another 10K to get the body, mechanicals, and interior in nice shape. Remeber, the more you can do yourself, the lower the cost. Pic's ??????????????? Edit: I type very slow. Now I see you are planning on doing the work. 3500.00 sounds very close in that case.
