Here are some pics from Shannonville Nostalgia meet today. lots of vintage stuff and even 3 six cylinders race cars.
first one here. It is a hemi A from kingston. Nice guy with a neat car Gold Chev2 is a six . belongs to Don Nicols, Ontario inliner pres.
lBB41 that red car belongs to "Blown 32" here on the hamb, it's called "Mothers Worry" and comes from Kingston as was mentioned. To bad he was having some problems and couldn't make a p***, better to be safe then sorry though. He did fire it up for us though. I got some pic's as well. I'll try to post them soon. It was good to see you at the track Don, the little six ran good for you. I like the idea of the six snowmobile carbs, looks really neat.
I thought that was his car, I had no idea on how far away that track was from Toronto area, maybe on the west coast..lol I seen the car and met him at Lancaster,NY nostalgia show a couple years back.
Far from Toronto? We go there for ice cream! about 1 1/2 to 2 hours tops. Belleville area. Some of these may be repeats. My new computer does not behave properly so please forgive me while I get used to it. I have a couple more groups I think. first nostalgia p*** of the day was two FEDs Greg Williams long BB chevy fed and some other fat old guy with a short 6 cylinder thing. Being old and fat i was unable to get that picture but I think my friend did. I asked him and shall await his answer. Greg is great to race with BTW. Despite being a much faster car he is noticably a safe racer and makes sure where everyone is before crossing over to the return road. Impressive to say the least.
I was there met Don and know why the ****pit of his digger is so big he has a lazy-boy in there.I enjoyed myself met some interesting people.there was a Stude that was so ugly that you had to like it.
Jeff Isnt your address the old turn off to Les Cedres Drag Strip or very nearby? I have a time ticket there from my early days. July 1966. Raced there until 1968. I used to live in Point Claire and later Dollard. I was great to meet you BTW. Got some pictures from my friend Gilles Sabourin (There seems to be a pattern forming "ïci"!) One is the dual FED run. I will try and attach it.
The guy in the hat is my friend Mike Sietsma. We have been firends since 68 . Mike crews on the Flatliner Maverck but keeps an eye on his old pal Don too. A dragster unlike a door car is hard to run by yourself. Even an vintage style like mine. Mike is right there doing what needs to be done. His gal Bonnie makes sure there is Barqs Root beer for Don to drink as well. Good friends make for great times. I guesss that is all the pics I took. Any of mine are available for any use without asking. Gilles is Gilles '(FED race photo)and i guess he should be asked. Don
Cedar Dragway was a couple exits east of here I raced and promoted races there.Bill kirk and the Charlebois' ran it when I first went there in early 60's.Don Nichols told me that he ran there in mid 60's
All we need to make this look period is Bezzer in his head dress doing his dance!!! I saw him on Saturday, nearly fell over, haven't seen him at this track in years!!! Although, hi did just move back to the neighborhood. I hope to see a lot of this next year at the Flat out Weekend, we will be holding it at the same track that these pic's were taken at.
Yeah, Beezer was there. He is an old friend and stopped by my digger for about 15 minutes on saturday. I offered him a ride but he said he had to stay away from fast cars. I told him then he would be ok in this one but he still declined. Don
I heard Beezer was building a new car, is that true ? I know his old Willys is over in Niagara Falls but not for sale.
back from Shannonville..Not ab ad weekend, had about 30+ nostalgia cars sat..We ran a nostalgia Gambler race today (Sunday).weather was great... Beazers Old willys is a high $$ street rod in Southern Ontario.. What is he building?..He bought parts fro mme this weekend..But I'm sworn to secrecy..LOL He did have his Anti rain dance costume with him,but felt it wouldn't be the time or plac to wear it ,with todays current condition. Good to see ya Don..Gad ,that's a bad pic of me in the yellow shirt.. Talk later; 1939fiat
BTW Beez was probably right. things have not been good in the area. First time in 250+ years. All thanks to one guy too.
Ok..shameless plug for old cars racin at an old facility. Ontario Nostalgia Drag Racers (ONDR) brought 30 car out to Shannonville on Saturday. Here we are lined up against a 33 willys, who was out "shaking down" this car.. 1939fiat
Now we.re talking. come on there must be more pics than that. great photo though. A Fiat and a Willys. The way it used to be and still should be! And dont be shy about promoting the ONDR. I know i am not in it but not because i am opposed to the concept. I just dont do well in clubs. must be my square head. Don
Ok..Don..i won't be shy....we've been tryin to build that event up there ,but for some reason the promter doesn't promte.. here's another one.. 1939fiat
Belongs to Bill Vilneff from Keene. Works good. Nice guy too. RP promoter?! I have heard him called a lot of things but never that. He has his good points too. There was a real move afoot locally to prevent me from running my rail. Why i dont know but I heard about it regularily. He stepped in and put a stop to it . I owe him for that. The car was built legally by the book. Roll cage is big because i am and also I have a busted rib cage so entry and exit can be almost impossible in a tight spot. The 6 cyl thing was the big buggaboo. Bob Gauley helped me a lot too the first time down. He is better with people then I but it was big Jim who finally told them to quit fooling around and let me run. He seems to like the car. I dont understand a lot. Bob Gualey knows him better than I in that aspect. They have to fight almost for every thing they get with the track owner. The arm drop guys from TO just rent the darn place for a flat fee so I heard. course just cause i heard it doesnt mean it is true. It wasnt a bad fee either if what i heard was right. If someone didnt tell me I would never know when they are racing.
Don; We had no problem ,but there regular bracket guys trying to make up the a rain date race ,besides the nostalgia thing, well, it had a few "ticked"..tough luck, if ya don't want us there. The starter made a point of telling us,how much he enjoyed the old stuff.. Mr P has been fine also,as were most.. I think a few of their racers take themselves to serious.. Ok..here's another pic. 1939fiat
I think a few of their racers take themselves too serious.. I am smiling. Serious would be the understatment. Well I like you coming as do most of my friends except the 2 serious "professional type racers. My neighbour had "not been snce 1960s and really enjoyed himself. As soon as you say nostalgia the folks are ready to go. He saw the flyer in a store in Trenton and asked if i was going down. Great pics . keep em coming.
We have to promote it. We have to show up We have to line up together. Jim does this as a sideline and has a business to run. He is not a promoter in the sense we think of it like say Dizzy Dean or Arnie M . It just isnt in his personality. Once we understand that those of us who love the old stuff (clubbed or not) will just have to get the job done. We need a place to run. That must be our focus. As late as wed i talked to local racers and hotrodders who knew nothing about it. Next year We could work the local cruise nighs and internet about three weeks ahead to get some attention and interest going. I could do some cruise stuff.
if I knew ahead of time maybe I could get a few friends to go and are you running in Luskville next year.
I intend to. I have known Arnie for a hundred years . Worked with his brother Garth in Napanee and next door neighbour married his nephew (Sister of Olympic rowing gold medalist Brian Price) My brothers live in Carlton Place and Spencerville and Dad lives in Johnstown so I have a good excuse to go. Why I can even parler une peu. If a group from here was going and there was trailer space i would go. We shall see. I hate driving to the far away tracks but enjoy it when I am there.
