model a chassis stretch, give us a clue!

    ok, need to stretch a model A ch***is 7 1/2 inch at rear as were using a pilot axle which is spring behind.got it figured out in our heads but thought id ask how any of you guys would or have done this.were just gonna remove the rear xmember and do a parrallell stretch from frame to the xmember.looks easy nuff, but any tips??

  2. Steve , are you Z'ing the car at the same time?
    Also are you using the stock Pilot spring?
    If so , you will need to change the rear crossmember to Pilot or later Ford than the A one , or make a suicide style perch.
    Let me know what you are trying to do as we have just Z'd a stock A ch***is front and rear and stretched it to 106'' wheelbase using some channel folded to duplicate the original rails and then we fully boxed her with drilled boxing plates....It looks great and I can sort some pictures out for you if you want them.
    The car is a steel '30 5 window and is getting a Buick Nailhead fitted , hence the stretch.

    hello gary, i not been on here for a while, didnt know youd jumped in. nice to have you here though.
    we used an A rear spring, and just done the stretch tonite. shall take some pics tmrw so you can all tell us what we done wrong!!!!!!! [​IMG]
