59's have wedge 413s (with the old style heads). $15k sounds pricey for a 4dr. but if it's what you want, go for it. it still costs less than a new toyota....

OUCH! Well, you said what some of us were thinking. So quit the whining and get the cash and make the trip. We call these guys "curb-stoners". So is he a kicker, picker or a flicker? Good one Tman!

  3. By the same virtue, if you've done business with him for 20+ years, is there any reason not to trust him?

If you don't like it, walk, you can always buy my '58 for $400 or so. Of course it's a rusty wrecked refugee from a demolition derby, but hey, that's what you get for cheap.

Maybe it's just to hard for him to show it.

I used to repair appliances. One time, I troubleshot an old lady's washing machine. I told her I didn't have the particular part she needed on my truck but I could come back the next day with it. She asked if I could come back in a week because it tired her out to have visitors. She needed a full week to recover. She didn't do anything but let me in the door and yack about the weather. She moved normally. I never would have guessed it.

I watched my wife's grandfather decline until he struggled for 4 hours just to eat every day.

Maybe the man doesn't want to take pictures or show it because it would be such an effort for him. It's hard for us young guys to imagine that simply opening a garage door would wear someone out for a week. I guess it's natural to expect everyone to act like we do.

  8. Hahaha, I like this old guy too!

Sounds like a no fukkin around character. We could all learn something from selling this way....

    Lets say it like this....

If you got something that's worth $500 bucks, and somebody wants to buy one, and they know its worth at least $500... what's the problem?

Cash is King. Tell the tire kickers to take a hike.

I know a guy (you may think he's a fool, hahah) who smashed his old 60's mustang cobra (i forget the exact year now) with a baseball bat in front of a return potential buyer (tire kicker) who kept haggling and wasting his time. Showed up after my buddy was half way through a bottle of shine...now nobody can have her!!!LOL

I've been on both sides of this, as a younger guy with less money trying to buy up, and as an older guy with stuff that I may or may not be willing to sell depending on the level of aggravation involved in the transaction. I've always subscribed to the less money, but less of a pain in the ass is a good sale.

This is totally about the level of aggravation for the seller and this is his way of minimizing it. If he really needed the money, he's going to be willing to put up with a lot more trouble.

I would roll cash in hand and if you don't buy it for what ever reason, you have only lost the time it took to make the trip. Cash to buy in order to see it just means no one is wasting their time.

I'd have to say not being afforded to see the car is better than getting the hell beaten out of you by some big Italian biker dude, then comes the .44, so on and so forth. That post on the Jockey was a good read tho...
