i just pick up my first issue fo rodders journal, and it is awesome!!! i have always wondered about the mag but never picked it up because of the price. so this last saturday i decided to look thru the mag, and wow was i supprised. i love everything about it. the car history, the coverage and the lay out. the 15 dollars i spent on it was well worth it and i am thinking about getting a subscription. the lloyd bakan coupe is awesome and looks great in all the shot. but the car that did it for me was the red 32 roadster. im in love with the style and the period he was going for. well thats all i got to say. TM
Ya thats a great mag. One of the only ones I consider a valid read. HEY!!!!! BURQUE!!!! Good to see another local!
I almost feel like calling it a magazine is a disservice to The Rodder's Journal. It's like each one should be entered in the library of congres. It's that good PERIOD. The Loyd Baken coupe is definitely Boss.
can't tell ya how many times I pull one down from the shelves and start thumbing through them and reread an article for who knows how many times...yup you can sell them for a profit...I just can never bring myself to part with them
I love that book. It seems like when one comes in the mail i lose a few hours to it as soon as I open it. Sometimes I like to wait until no ones home to crack it and take my time to drool over it...
ive only had it since saturday and have read it twice. i love the look of the red roadster. the dirt trackers and the radials up front call to me. it reminds me of the 29 roadster magoo built in the late 70s same color.
The Rodder's Journal is about the best magazine/book out there. Excellent photography by Steve ****an, Geoff Miles, (If I were only half as good..) and the best writers in the biz in the likes of Ken Gross, Jay Fitzhugh, and Pat Ganhal, and others who contribute, you can't go wrong. Quality paper stock and glossy pages.. Not one issue disappoints. Quality is remembered long after price is forgotten. TRJ is King. Spike
I've picked up an issue occasionally and flicked through and thought, "Not much in this one that interests me" but when I read them they are always good. It's the quality of the research and writing that makes them good no matter what the subject. And of course the photography, paper, printing, binding....
Re. 70's, issue 34 has a feature on Gary Kessler's yellow Deuce highboy. Newstand copies are AU$19.95 here, but they have the barcode, which I think ruins the cover.
It amazes me how good they are at figuring out what is what. They will show some snap shot of a old drag race and say , oh this guy on the left is so and so who is related to this guy who says its such and such and proceed to tell you the whole story on how this little drag race in 1957 got started or what ever, fantastic.
Last year I thumbed through a mag at a book store and was really impressed....but seeing as I dont have time to read stuff I want to read, I wasnt too motivated to buy a sub....so I asked for one for Cristmas....My pops stepped up and bought me a year...I now have four issues, and havent read a single one of them. they are still in the plastic...BUT just renewed for 2 years and bought my pops a sub as well... One of these days (in the next year) when I get the truck done I'm hoping to have some time to read all the issues I have stock piled...seems that all the free time I have is jamming on the truck so me and my boy can go cruise in daddies truck... Its the best mag I've never read
