I've heard from a few guys that the best place to order gl*** for my car is on the internet, but I'm having a tough time getting any responses from the very few suppliers that I've found. I have a windshield, I need door gl***, rear quarters, and back window. The four sides are still in the car so I can use them for templates, but the local gl*** shop wants $90 each, plus $120 for the back gl*** (because there's no template, even though I can make one). After $500 for gl*** I'm thinking shopping local isn't the answer! Anyone have a good recommendation?
I had a 56 chevy truck. I ordered the tinted back window over the internet and it came in little pieces. They sent a second, and it was just cracked in half. Finally got it locally. paid slightly more, but it was in great shape. The internet folks would not label the box gl*** because they told me the shipping drivers would treat is worse if they did.
shipping gl*** is a pain and expensive . shop around..that is too high , i could get that cut here for around $200
How miserable must your life be when you get off on thorwing around other people's packages in hopes that it'll break before it gets there?
I ordered gl*** from Bob off of ebay. Great guy to talk to on the phone. Gl*** fit perfect on my 1930 model A. Gl*** plus shipping was cheaper than I could get local. I highly reccomend them
I've got a PM in to Bob right now on my kid's truck. I need to do more homework first but I'm going with a HAMBer before I go anywhere else! And Zombie, I've been to NY/NJ for shipping issue myself. I import car parts from South Africa for our company. We had water damage and there was a guy in New Brunswick area that did rework for us. He had a huge warehouse full of containers they were fixing, sorting, cleaning. He showed us one that was full of French wine and champaign. He claimed the guys on the dock wanted to see what would happen if they dropped it. Imagine a few thousand bottles of wine and about 1/2 of them busting. It had been a week and the container still had wine leaking out both ends. They buckled the walls with the drop, it didn't bounce like they thought.
Thanks for all the replies! I'll check with Bob at Bob's Cl***ic Auto Gl***. I didn't even consider a gl*** company might be an Alliance member... DUH! No **** Zombie! It blows me away how many people have no respect for other people's property! If I have gl*** shipped it will be insured!
Woo hoo! Bob ROCKS! Just talked to him and I'm looking in the neighborhood of $225 plus roughly $30 shipping! Will be a few weeks before I order but I'd better hurry, fall weather is all the way down to the high 70's now!
Forgot to mention this is Alliance Member pricing, which the discount almost pays for the Alliance Member donation. Well worth it for two reasons, plus lots of future purchases!
Bob also supplied all the weather stripping and window gaskets for my '37 Chevy. All was from Lynn Steele, but a LOT cheaper than Steele's prices, using my HAMB Alliance discount. I'll use Bob's for the gl*** in my next project.
Well, I didn't use Bob after all. I have a guy here in town who owns a gl*** shop who needed some work done on his phone system (my profession) so we did a trade deal. Everything worked out great, the gl*** is in and fits perfect! For all others considering custom gl***, talk to Bob! He knows exactly what he's doing, will give great advice and has VERY reasonable prices! My local guy was still more than $200 more than Bob, but my end of the trade was equipment I had on the shelf plus some labor so it worked out well for both of us. Thanks to all for your input!
I found a complete set of gl*** for my 33 Plymouth cpe on the web for $354.delivered.It was from The Gl*** Man in Placerville,CA.Iwas very happy with it,each piece was extremely well packed and it got here to Long Island,NY in perfect shape just this past march.
