We are getting started on the tear down of the 30 Fordor. Not sure in which way we are going to go yet. Looking for some thoughts. Pops wants it to be driver freindly as hes not into shifting gears anymore and will not drive a car with mechanical brakes. I don't want it to be a billet car /street rod. I would like it to be different not the same ole stuff.

Shelby and I are going to build this for him hopefully have it done by Christmas.
We have several options. Don't know what are they are as of yet.
I am thinking a new chassis with disc brakes, S-10 rear, Chevy II 4 Banger, powerglide. And do the body original (lite and dark grey), with full fenders. 16" wire wheels.
Or maybe early Buick nailhead 322 or flathead?
What would you do if it was yours?

If it were mine? I would put the fenders on, updated it with 39-48 juice brakes and steelies. A warmed up flat head would be nice but a nailhead could be cool. I like the idea of leaving the hood off but leaving the rest of the body as is with the exception of a 2" roof chop. Maybe a Four Door version of the Chrisman Sedan. If for some reason you decide to go all out with it here is some inspiration.

does the banger run? if it were mine and it did I'd leave it alone and putt around like that.

if all you are going to do is a chevyII motor and glide I wouldn't change the frame. disc brakes ans later rear sounds good.

It is a complete running A with 40 juice brakes. The only problem is Pops don't want to shift gears. I don't know why.... hes always owned a 3-4spd cars. I guess age is creeping up and he tired.

  5. John,

What about making it into a Dietrich Coupe? I have scans that I can send you tomorrow. If I remember correctly, your fordor will work!

  7. John,

Sorry, it's actually a Buehrig design (shuck, huh?), but in the Deitrich style- here are some pics:

We decided on a 322 Nailhead. This is what we want the body to look like. These colors. And a different set of wheels. Maybe a set of vintique spokes or steelies,. Anybody with Photoshop that could change the wheels and stance maybe chop the top a little?
    Thanks

I'd build a rat rod out of it!

Love the idea. I also like steelies over anything else.

Just a few inches out the top, slight lowering, plus some Vintique smoothies and lost spare wheel too.
