    Hey Fellas,
Does anybody know what the correct oil filter for a 261 chevy is? It's the old canister style mounted high on the drivers side. How do I tell the difference between full flow and byp***?
It's in a 51 truck that belongs to my girlfriend. She inherited it when her dad p***ed away. I wish he was still around to tell me what mods he did to it back in the day and help me get it going. It hasn't been on the road since '78. I know the block is a 261 and the head is an "848". Its been dropped in the rear and it's open driveline. I believe the rearend is out of a late 50's early 60's chevy car. The front still has a solid axle but has 5 lug hubs. Any ideas how he could have done that?

Hubs were probably off a 53-4 Chevy car. They interchange easily. I think the canisters were all the same. The 848 head is the one everyone wants......

If the filter's got the dinky lines, it's a byp*** setup. The full flow filters have much larger inlet/outlet hoses.

I think the #50010 will get you one thru cross reference at any supply house.
